Pickles never REEE

why not make a specialized barrel that works like a curding tub that you just fill up with vinegar and drop things in it such as cucumbers, beets, eggs, carrots, onions and after a few days comes out a pickle-ized form of the things you just dropped in?

And salt, you need some salt for pickling as well.

Salt is worth nothing now, so at least if it's used for food it will have a use.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

A quick search for "pickle*" found this as the fourth hit. (Pro tip: the '*" is highly useful in searches to find plurals, conjugated verbs, or other words that may have multiple forms. I know Google has made wildcard characters obsolete, but a private server doesn't have that kind of indexing power.)
