To say we need a meritocratic society is to imply financial success for individuals and rising to political power isn't already on the basis of talent, effort and achievement. I disagree, these are already inherent values of capitalism. Attempts at creating Utopian societies where everyone is equal through force of government and police are never going to end well and you can see this throughout multiple cases in history.

So you live in a society where the government has no impact?Kaios wrote:To say we need a meritocratic society is to imply financial success for individuals and rising to political power isn't already on the basis of talent, effort and achievement. No? I'm not sure I really understand the point of the question. I live in a society responsible for pulling 1.1 billion people out of extreme poverty since 1990.

It's always the same ignorant, rehashed horseshit. The same tired, threadbare arguments. All masked under title of social justice and fairness. The deceiver's guise. Muh fair share!
(...) the government confiscated wealth and property, and (...) all industries in any way related to national defence or foreign trade were placed under the direct control of the State (...) A huge bureaucracy emerged to manage all this, and that bureaucracy swallowed up increasing portions of the nation’s confiscated wealth and property ....
The future EU. Which is really Imperial Germany. The Fourth Iteration. Government agents will expropriate your stuff via electronic means. Very civilized now. No Waffen SS or NVKD this time 'round. Bright smiles, good posture and fresh breath await you in that brave new world! No late nite door-kicking and troublesome hysterics. Oh, no, you need be productive. How else to milk wage-slave cattle? Or is that chattel? No matter. Can't get blood from a turnip, no matter how hard you squeeze it, serf.
(...) The working class and the poor in general had neither the expertise nor the means to protect the little they had. They were the ones who ended up holding the billions in worthless currency.
Go ahead with your genius financial plan to Save the World From Those Fucking Greedy Capitalists. Expropriate other peoples' stuff. By force of State Agents if you must. What do I care? I'm already mid-life and working class, to boot. Just do me a favor in the process? Raze my house to the ground last? Thanks :)

Sweden was great pre-Arvin
The low life has lost its appeal

It never ends well because the general population would squander any wealth they were given. Personally by taking a look at how your average citizen in the west manages their finances I wouldn't want my wealth redistributed to any of you thank you very much.Kaios wrote:To say we need a meritocratic society is to imply financial success for individuals and rising to political power isn't already on the basis of talent, effort and achievement. This is a pleb-thread with pleb-tier expectations of the financial system. Instead of demanding somebody elses money as though you have any entitlement to it, perhaps consider demanding they do more useful things with their money. Oh but such surprise, everyone only wants a redistribution of wealth because of selfish personal greed, not out of any desire to make the world a better place. Please. Rich people didn't get rich by being stupid, they got there by being ruthless, which brings me onto the actual rebuttal which is that capitalism rewards parasitic behaviour not talent. Capitalism rewards talent at ripping people off, at corruption and manipulation and of greed and lack of compassion.
Capitalism is the single greatest cause of the worlds woes and if you can't see that then the education system has done its job well.
Laying flat.

Where is the evidence for this? I mean I would agree that capitalism creates its fair share of individuals using others as stepping stones to reach their goals in life but isn't that just Darwinian at its core? Survival of the fittest? There seems to be plenty more evidence that as a direct result of capitalism has been innovative ideas which have vastly improved the overall quality of life not just for people in the West but the world at large. What is the evidence that communism or socialism has improved anyone's life?Jalpha wrote: which brings me onto the actual rebuttal which is that capitalism rewards parasitic behaviour not talent. Re: sweden is a terrible country
See, you all are looking for the wrong solutions, and can't even define the problem correctly.
I have the ultimate solution. In order to have a smarter, better running society, you need better, smarter citizens in that society. Unfortunately, the only way to get smarter citizens is through better education. Unfortunately, only those who are smart enough to educate their children themselves bring up smarter citizens. The public education system can only help those that are willing to make use of it, which the vast majority seem unwilling (or incapable) of doing. The solution is then to only allow educated people to have offspring.
Will this end wars and bring peace to the world? Hardly, because you can't throw a cat without hitting someone that is going to disagree with you. It also won't solve the issue of another country's outlets blowing up your cellphone because you forgot to bring a power adapter.
(Am I trolling or being serious? hmm... hard to say.)
