Witherstand not producing corn

It could just be that witherstand grows extremely slowly but I've been doing extensive exploration of some very large caverns near my place, and checking my fully grown (planted) witherstand and absolutely none are producing withercorn. I'm not sure when they stopped 'sprouting', and it could just be that they grow achingly slowly, but is it possible they're bugged?

Not a bug per se but a flaw in the game mechanic for tree and shrub regrowth. This is based on the decay mechanic, and underground layers don't use the decay process. It's considered a feature request, and one that has been coming back up often since the underground trees were introduced.

Ah, thank you. So... as it stands, underground witherstand only yields withercorn once?
