Upgradeable boats

Post by al »

Better if it'd be separate boat object (and expensive), but the sprite could be the same.

So, you build upgradeable boat the same way as current one. At this moment, it is identical to normal boat, but you can make one of the following upgrades:

a) Add one more passenger seat.
b) Add one more cargo space.
c) Remove one cargo space and make boat faster.

You can make only one upgrade and only once.

More restrained version of these upgrades (to preserve current gameplay balance) could be:

a) Remove one cargo space and add one passenger seat.
b) Remove one passenger seat and add one cargo space.
c) Remove all cargo space and make boat faster.

With this version of the idea, it'd be great if sprites were changed a little to reflect modification type. For example, with upgrade 'b' there could be boxes/chests or something where is a passenger place in normal boat.

Or you could make a sail boat.

I kinda like this idea, but I would like to see more boat types.

a steam boat, a lot of passenger space, kinda fast a lot of cargo space(can carry a row boat) needs a dock to dock, and very expensiveness.

a speed boat, little cargo space and only a couple seat

there are many boat types that could be brought into the game.

I like the idea given the restrained version of these upgrades, but use the current boat and skip the additional passenger seat (so only the ability to remove the passenger seat for 1 more cargo slot).

here and here are two semi-decayed threads on boats, barges, pontoons, longboats, drakkars, canoes etc. feel free to search through and revive them ;)
in short - canoe AKA logboat, carved from a single log same way as caern and runestone are carved from boulder with lumberjacking skill (doesn't need carpentry) with 1 passenger and 1 cargo hold pretty much goes with the OP ideas.

Rafts - Require Basic Carpentry skill

Items required to make

Boards 15-20

Any String 10-20

(If not Boards) Branches 5-50 (for steering or, general building of raft.

Raft is capable of holding 1-5 people, or, 2 people and a cart/animal.

Steering requires a portion of stamina, considering it is a large raft to steer. Maybe 1% every second or two.

Raft could probably move a little slower than a boat, like walking speed for a human.

Rafts would be useful so you could get tamed animals across water, but carts? Seriously? What do you think would happen once you placed the cart on the raft? Which is heavier? cart? raft? Obviously the cart, so the raft would practically just sink in the water, or break into pieces on land.
