If you search personal claim, it actually has a date of Feb 2, 2019. Right there on the page it states:

The initial claim area is a 5x5 square around the totem. It can be expanded at the cost of 10 LP per square (note that personal claims do not refund LP anymore, so what's spent is lost after declaiming). This is done by increasing the dimensions of the claim (north, east, south, west).

Yes, it does suck. I was in this same situation earlier this world. I declaimed and didn't understand why no lp was refunded. Checked out the wiki and lo and behold. Sorry for your lp loss. But, at least now we both know why.

I guess it's a way to combat lp banking becoming an issue with super large claims spreading across vast amounts of lands.

Well, wow! I swear Ill be checking dates from now on lol... ty for the info. I am so happy this happened early in=game for me.

Legacy like everybody used their claim is a bank and some people really did it to insane levels I basically use my claim to deposit lp for whenever my character died and I would shrink my claim to cover my losses
