What, and you think Discord is full of high quality discussion and readable? Average quality of Discord chats is much lower than on forums like these, and Discord just being a stream of messages (distributed over a handful of channels) makes it much harder to keep track of conversation (and Discord's search utterly sucks) while forums have neat categorization and threads to organize discussion.

Boooo I'm better than everyone else! Is there anywhere I can go to have SOPHISTICATED conversations?

Get a grip

IRC client Mibbit had these things since way before Discord existed.

IRC has a bazillion free servers you can freely create channels on (including the option to lock others out in multiple ways).

Unnecessary on IRC. You can contact and see the status of anyone on the same server, provided you know their nickname.

Are you serious? Discord's search is terrible and sure as hell can't compare to text file search tools.

- Emojis/emotes
- Voice chat, as mentioned
- 1 on 1 video calling
There are things IRC indeed does not have. Voice and video chat are outside of its scope as it's a text chat client, I've seen clients try the other two but I don't know if there are any actually notable clients implementing those.

Searches the term and orders the results by time. Yeah, terrible.

This. Discord versus IRC is a dumb thing to argue over. More people use discord, so if you want to keep up with what's going on in the game you should probably use it.

Discord has forced fuzzy search, so it does not actually search for a term, but multiple terms. This in fact does make the search terrible if you're actually looking for something specific.

It's more complicated than that. Sorry you don't know how to use search terms.

Again, there is no exact match search, it is forced fuzzy and the link that you have given me showcases no fix for this.

While on that topic, has:file is extremely limited and will add everything (from images to exes to jars) directly uploaded into the channel to your search without any actual filter for any specific filetype.

Are a part of the UNICODE standard for several years now. If IRC doesn't support them, it's because it's an active decision to not move to the new UNICODE standard. It's been too many years since I cared about such things, so I don't know if they're there or not. (note: they can be added by IRC clients using some fancy code work in the same way the extended character sets can be used to display characters from Chinese and other languages that use 32 bit encoding. Had to look that up: https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/mirc/unico ... nd_Unicode)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
