Its 2020 and sites like steam and discord fail to reliably send my messages. Sometimes they tell me that the message couldn't be sent, but there is no guaranteed delivery via automated retries or anything like that.
How can this be still?
I have thought of stopping using all other methods of communication than irc, because irc is very reliable when compared to steam and discord, but the issue is that world is full of retards who want to use these shiot platforms instead of irc so I would just be alone in irc reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Don't you even have a sparkle of a clue in this matter!

For one ... Technological advances, computer, software or otherwise, do nothing to re-leave humans of there inherent bad tendencies. (laziness, shortsightedness, self centeredness, ... etc etc etc)
Commercialism not helping here either. As in selling stuff as "the new and improved" (next) perfect thing.

Same goes for the biological advance in IQ btw. Its just a tool that has no inherent good or bad side. ... Well, apart from the fact that it comes with a higher change for self-deception that is.

Also seem to forget that IRC had its fair share of netsplits and the likes. It wasn't any more reliable than discord truth be told.

There are only a few netsplits on a well maintained servers and they last only a short time (minutes, usually less).
With discord it seems that there are constantly very annoying issues which sometimes last for a loong time!

Search-function in discord is very bad when compared to irc etc... Discord requires installation of very bloated client which only works on some platforms, but I can connect to irc with literally any computer, because ssh is usually pre-installed.

Discord doesn't run on thin air, currently it's burning investor money. If they fail to make enough money with current business model, they will have to either paywall some features and/or (further) reduce the quality of servers.

And this is why I refuse to get sucked into it any more than I have to. It's going to end up like Facebook where they throw ads at you and pester you every time you open your browser.

discord could probably run on $5 US per person per year. It's a few years old, but it's already been shown that Facebook could run on $15 per person per year without any advertisements or other means of compromising their users.

Would rather they just make discord have better audio quality & sell it like team speak. Most of its features are nice but most of the games I play still prefer team speak simply due to that issue.
