What I've understood is that it is dangerous for all, but young people just have better chance for recovery when treated. So if hospitals run out of beds it will be bad.doesn't get really dangerous until 60+.

You will die at some point as well. I guess it's okay for someone to murder you right now, right? It only speeds up the inevitable.Jalpha wrote:it beats just waiting for them to die of other causes. They are dying anyway. I don't see where the fault is in my relief that they are dying sooner rather than later.

Re: Coronavirus
Well honestly I wouldn't care because I would be dead and at this stage of my life there's not a whole lot to live for yet so what do I care right now. Maybe someday my life will be worth more to me but that day is not today.
Death is just a part of life.
Do you fear death? Because I do not.

I didn't make those arguments to persuade anyone but rather to entertain myself; I derive a great deal of enjoyment from giving someone what they deserve.VDZ wrote:Then why bother wasting your time writing out an argument at all? If you're going to bother writing an argument, write it such that the reader(s) may find it convincing; if you half-ass it, you haven't convinced anyone but still wasted your time.xdragonlord18 wrote:I address people in a fashion that I feel they deserve. Jalpha has the mindset of a prepubescent teen so he gets a response in kind. I'm not going to waste my time writing out a well constructed argument when I don't believe he is even self aware enough to participate properly. It would be like trying to have a deep conversation about the meaning of life with an 11 year old. They just aren't developed enough, as a person, for a conversation like that to go anywhere.
Consider this counter argument: no it doesn't.AtoB wrote:Which makes you an even bigger idiot than what you think he is.xdragonlord18 wrote:Jalpha has the mindset of a prepubescent teen so he gets a response in kind.
It is certainly possible that whatever mental illness plagues Jalpha makes it impossible for him to comprehend the idea that he causes his own problems, but I do not make a habit of assuming that the person I am talking to is literally too retarded to understand the meaning of my words.MagicManICT wrote: Maybe you don't know much about mental illness, then. The "fun fact" about psychology is that only around 51% of the people of the world are "normal." The rest have an existing condition of some degree of severity. Most are mild and acute, some are chronic and severe, and will persist most of their lives. Some of the smartest people in the world have some form of mental health disorder. One could even say most, as high intelligence usually comes at a cost of being able to function in "normal society.
I treat everyone how I would want to be treated; if I made the claims that Jalpha is making I hope someone would insult me for it. In general I have no problem with low intelligence arguments or insults. It doesn't matter how they engage just as long as they genuinely engage with the discuss. The quality of arguments can be changed mid discussion if it looks worthwhile.MagicManICT wrote: As for the rest: remember the golden rule--treat others as you'd have them treat you. If you want them to come at you with insults and low intelligence arguments, then just keep on doing what you've been doing, and that's all you get in return. As I learned as a 10 year old child--Garbage in, garbage out.
I worked with kids from freshmen year high school through senior year college (BSA, Tutorting and babysitting). I've had plenty of conversations with kids. They can throw curve balls but it's not typically because they have some unique understanding of the situation but rather because they typically have almost no understanding of the situation. Sure their perspective can still be valid, good or otherwise insightful but that kind of thing is a lottery instead of an inevitability.MagicManICT wrote: And have a conversation with some kids... you'd be surprised at what kinds of insights they might have. Sure, they will be simple and with some level of naivete, but they can be extremely deep and profound, too. You're likely to have some of your own one day, and it'll be of great benefit to them if you understand them a bit better. (Also, one of the signs of many forms of mental health is "being stuck" at that early teen, even pubescent level of thinking.)

Well damn... something landed on I forget what news site that is usually legit... I've been watching MSN for aggregated collection of headlines. Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

technologyreview: what-is-herd-immunity-and-can-it-stop-the-coronavirus
Not seen any hints about opening centers, large centers, where people can go to be voluntarily infected, and be cared for, until there better and not infectious anymore. (and at least immune for some time. Still to be determined.
)
- (most healthy first of course)
- (preferably staffed by immune medics)
- (until there is a vaccine).
Sure it would cost something ... But so will the economical shutdown that's progressing along with the virus. And its effect is probably still underestimated.
One reason I can think of against this would probably be that its effect would be negligible unless its done on a scale ... that is probably to large to be practical.
(Still, some research papers on it would be nice.)

Re: Coronavirus
Mmm ... More potential problems ahead, it seems.
Ref: bloomberg: as-china-virus-cases-near-zero-experts-warn-of-second-wavebloomberg wrote:In contrast, the pandemics that began in 1889 and 1918 -- caused by influenza viruses that had similar levels of contagiousness to the coronavirus -- had three waves of infections, with the later waves more lethal than the first.
In 1918, three waves hit in quick succession within the space of a year, with the latter two waves accounting for most of the 50 million total death toll.
While researchers do not know for sure why later waves were more deadly, a phenomenon known as “antigenic drift,” in which small, natural changes build up in a virus’s genetic make-up over time, can change the pathogen enough to make it more harmful to human beings.
