Just curious: Why did you pick Java over Flash for HH?
I do some coding myself, but i lack any knowledge of technical details.
The only downsides of Flash that i know of is that it only supports TCP, and that it doesn't really support any graphics acceleration.

Re: @Loftar: Java vs Flash
Wow. Where do I start? Flash suxx0rs. There.
- Flash is proprietary. Java is open (source, even).
- Flash needs to run in a web browser, Java does not (and Haven doesn't).
- Flash needs a special (proprietary) development environment. I can write Java in Emacs and compile it in a terminal.
- Flash is the scourge of the web and deserves to burn in bit hell for it.

You don't need Flash to write code, the most popular alternative seems to be Flash Develop:loftar wrote:

http://www.flashdevelop.org
The Flash Player itself is closed source, i think... not sure, tho

Let's not forget the amazing Flash support on Linux.

I never really liked Java that much....but when you cast it against flash well...that's like saying smokeless tobacco is a good thing just because it carries a relatively minuscule set of health risks compared to smoking.

Oh, certainly. I despise Java with a passion. :) It doesn't come close to what I think of Flash, though. I can hardly even joke about that.Chakravanti wrote:I never really liked Java that much....

Re: @Loftar: Java vs Flash
are there really any viable alternatives for coding the client?

You speak as if C++ were good for anything. :)Chakravanti wrote:C++ like most game manufacturers?
I use Java because of its cross-platform capabilities and ease of running, obviously; which is one of the few really good things that can be said about Java.
If I were to do the client all over again, I'd probably use it as an excuse to play with ABCL. :)
