You picked a bad time to start, that's for sure.
Lure the ants away, raid the anthills, black ones give +STR. Although if I were you I'd focus on PER and getting nice ant queen curios.

Find a non-frozen fishing spot. Pike usually isn't hard to get. Or if you're near ocean, mullet is even better.
