My problem with masks is similar. They are ineffective and people are overconfident in them. I just read an article which claimed that people have been going outside more because they feel safer now that everybody is wearing masks. Who cares if they work so long as you are making money right? By the end of this week I will start to see some results which may give some indication as to their actual effectiveness in the greater scheme of things. However...
The charts I refer to are now showing a higher number of cases than tests performed. So obviously there is something fishy going on with the data. I just don't care enough to dig and try to find out what. Like I have said a few times already I think this pandemic is about much more than the virus.
If you look at the people who are freaking out though they are overwhelmingly American, even if they are living overseas. I find that interesting.

Do you have a link to a current chart that uses these metrics?Jalpha wrote:Yes. As confirmed cases increase so does the rate of hospitalisations and deaths, though the curve is not flat.
Can you share the way you will measure this?... masks ... By the end of this week I will start to see some results which may give some indication as to their actual effectiveness in the greater scheme of things.
No, they use two axis: on the left is tests, on the right is new cases detected by them. The charts I refer to are now showing a higher number of cases than tests performed.
But a better display would be to directly show the positive results % of the daily tests performed, but that figure is of no use when the aim is to instill fear as the numbers do no go up that nicely.
Speaking of fear, here's a nice conspiracy theory for you: Lookin at
one could argue that as the increase in testing is trailed by an increase in cases 20 days later... people get infected from being tested in the Victoria area, now that the flu season has started. Maybe they have new workers that are more brutal in poking the swab test stick at (and into) the mucous membrane in the back of the throat of the test subjects, damaging the tissue, increasing the chance of a pathogen agent invading the body through that area.
I certainly just pulled that out of my ass, but it would nevertheless be interesting to know more about the ones being tested positive: like how are they geographically distributed, are there overlaps in where they live, work, eat, use public transport, the location(s) they have been tested at, do they all use the same test or is there one that yields higher (false) positive rates than others, ... ?

Re: Coronavirus
Sweden has a different kind of artifact: the deaths preceed positive tests

This is (as far as I got it) caused by the opposition demanding harder measures or more tests - as the government there luckily isn't stupid they went with more tests, proving that 'corona cases as determined by PCR test' (red) have no correlation (which implies: no causation) at all with 'deaths by/with/because corona' (black).

I have to manually compare data between the chart you posted from this same page (tests vs infections) and this chart.AtoB wrote:Do you have a link to a current chart that uses these metrics?

I can use this chart. I have added an orange marker at the approximate date that masks were made compulsory. In another five days or so I will apply a little more effort into being specific.AtoB wrote:Can you share the way you will measure this?

There was a substantial number of people in the community who refused testing, holding similar beliefs. They all got infected anyway.AtoB wrote:people get infected from being tested in the Victoria area

Nevertheless, the answers to the questions at the end would still be very interesting.
And again: they are not needfully infected (though they might be), they just have a positive PCR test.
I suggest we try to avoid confusing these two states.
Looking forward to your mask findings.

Well, to clarify I am certain that there is a virus, and that it is dangerous. The methods used in handling the pandemic I do find questionable though.

Same here. Though I doubt the official measurement stick that was put next to 'dangerous'.Jalpha wrote:Well, to clarify I am certain that there is a virus, and that it is dangerous. The methods used in handling the pandemic I do find questionable though.
We just had a press conference of the RKI (state agency) where their leader claimed to be extremely concerned about the massive increase in infections.. Some problems: it is positive PCR tests (not infections) and that fuck should know it by now, the increases reported in the absolute numbers are fully explainable by the increased amount of tests being performed and they do not even talk ONCE about that, finally the number they are 'concerned about' has basically reached the false positive rate you get when performing the test on samples of sterile distilled water...
We're obviously being lied to.

Re: Coronavirus
i thought the point of wearing a face covering is that it can protect others especially during the incubation period?
if you don't want to wear a mask just self-quarantine.
