one of the good thing about this game is the lack of moderation
besides I honestly dont see how anything you just mentioned is even an issue
when it comes to serious bugs like wall jumps the devs get involved, who gives a fuck about minor bugs, things like trolling people running around in outdated clients is their own fault

Re: Devs stance against RMT, bug abusing, and player abusing
It's a game. and if you take the game seriously enough to be blackmailed for IRL money then I think you need to sort your priorities out. I agree with you that it should be a bannable offense but I don't think the devs are to blame for lack of moderation when people should just say no. If someone asked for your passwords you wouldn't give them away.shubla wrote:That is not true. Who cares if it is a game?Rebs wrote: , its a game so there is no threat that someone should make to you that should force you to hand over money.
How does playing this game, and then somebody demanding money to not raid your game differ from somebody demanding money or else he will ruin your garden.
Both have taken precious hours off your life, and you have fun with the results. But if somebody ruins the results for basically no reason, it will cause bad thoughts. Yeah, you can rebuild your base or replant your garden, but what if you didn't have to?
RMT should not be tolerated in any case, especially in the case where somebody is forcibly demanding it. I wouldn't be surprised if demanding RL money in games was even illegal, but of course its internet with parties from various countries so prosecution etc. is difficult.
Of course, siege etc. should also be fixed. To favor the 99%. But that is kind of a separate issue from what this thread discusses.

Re: Devs stance against RMT, bug abusing, and player abusing
It is very difficult to know how vulnerable the people on the recieving end are to extortion. Bear in mind there is no control over age for instance for people playing this game, as far as the legality of it goes that would be dependant on which country you are in but I think is basically unethical enough anyway that the devs should care about it.Rebs wrote:It's a game. and if you take the game seriously enough to be blackmailed for IRL money then I think you need to sort your priorities out. Re: Devs stance against RMT, bug abusing, and player abusing
Im a new player, when I started this game, I saw it from a streamer that played it for a bit, thought this looked interesting. Got into the game and was reading the first quest when someone came to me and planted an axe into my skull. Right, new character, new spawn, started next to a big player city. 2 people came to me after about 10 minutes of me starting, and again, killed. No talk no nothing. New character created and spawned, made progress, got myself a little house and build a fence around it and not seeing anyone. After a few days, I met the first player with my new character. Again, got killed by a bow, no talk, just kill. The guy dumps my corpse into the river. So far, my experience in this game have been just bad and dire. I have started again, but my hopes are not good. Seems noone in this game wants to talk, only kill anything that moves. Just my experience as a new player. One day I might actually enjoy the game.

If that is true, then you have been extremely unlucky. There a lot of players that will gladly talk, trade, and help you. However, larger factions are usually more hostile towards new players, as these players are a potential drain on the local resources, and these factions are prone to being bored enough to go hunting for defenseless players. Mind, there are factions that are friendly, but it's a toss up whether you spawn near one or the other. Your best bet would be to reach out in Dwarves&Thieves to find a friendly community.Twizamber wrote:Im a new player, when I started this game, I saw it from a streamer that played it for a bit, thought this looked interesting. That is nearly never the case, its just about being an asshole and wanting to cause suffering for others because they cannot come up with other things to satisfy themselves.new players, as these players are a potential drain on the local resources

This is a phenominally stupid argument.Rebs wrote:Fine lets say they ban people for blackmailing. you will just end up with the same result as if the blackmailees just said no. instead of blackmailers asking for money they will just murder you and raid you off the bat which is the same as just saying no. as you pointed at, its a game so there is no threat that someone should make to you that should force you to hand over money.F1nch wrote:The word I would like to point out here is "game." Yes, it is a pvp sandbox. Danger is to be expected. That's part of the fun. But when extortion becomes the main aspect of playing, and players spend all their time fleeing from these RMTers, playing turns from being fun to being a chore. The danger in a pvp game should come from pvp itself, not from being forced to pay real life money to try to squeeze even the smallest modicum of fun out of playing. The issue is not that the game is dangerous, of course it is. The issue is the involvement of real world currency and extortion.Rebs wrote: and let's be honest here. if people quit for losing their stuff then they shouldn't be playing a sandbox permadeath pvp game.
Haven is not the real world. People play it because they enjoy it, and once that enjoyment is taken, then there are no longer players. As I stated above, this would not be allowed in any other game. This is not a simple in-game conflict. This is real world extortion. The lack of involvement from the devs on this issue is quite honestly infuriating. If not for the sake of their players, then for the sake of the player count.
Raids on newer players happen because you can make real world money off of it. If you couldn't what would be the purpose in raiding a small hermitage? The resources put into the raid would actually cost more than you would gain from the hermitage itself given most hermits are 1000+ Quality behind major factions due to solo play. The only reason newer players get raided is RMT and its despicable and disgusting. If we permaban those who RMT, then the only people left raiding are people who want to do it for ingame fervor which means raiding wealthy factions and inter-faction warfare which is something we want to actually encourage.

what are you smoking lol
raids happen for a few reasons, though on hermits:
1. it's because the person raiding you doesn't like you
2. it's because the person raiding you wants you to move
3. it's because the person raiding you is bored and there's nothing else to do
or 4. it's because they have something to benefit from raiding you
the hat shit is dumb but it's not "the only reason" people raid.
though yes, rmt in this game is disgusting and something should be done about it.
