I'm sure it's been mentioned before at some point, but a tutorial area for nublets would be nice to cover the basics & perhaps get them enough lp to get some of the basic skills. I could see someone making one in general in-game and letting them warp to it via' a hearthfire secret but I can see people being JA's and trashing it just for the "lolz".
Such as how to chat, add people to kin, what personal beliefs do, how to get skills, etc. etc. Just the basics of gameplay and quick highlights of features.
Although all this information you can pretty much find on the forum most nublets won't ever even read any threads regarding help at all and the "How do I" responses are nice but if there was a tutorial it would almost completely eliminate that section and save everyone some time.
Edit: Kind of pointless now that I found another thread about it but I suppose more chitchat would be a good idea as that thread seemed to have gotten buried fairly fast.

There's some guides on the forum and the wiki, you don't need much else besides that and the IRC
One day I hope to start a village. It shall be called 'Fruit Town'

I think there could be a small official effort to help out a new hearthling.
I know this community is a huge hub for information, and that the community is very much a part of the game itself.
But, without being insulting, there's a lot of shitty information. It's hard to trust a peasant's book of theories and such, a book read from the kingdom's library would at least be a trustworthy source.
Admittedly, I had a hard time adjusting to a game such as this. There is a lack of guidance and information by just hitting 'Play'. Plain a simple. That's very well the intention, for all I know.
But no note of an update other than to find out the hard way a few days later on accident? That's plain unfair.
I don't mean to be viral or anything, but I really enjoyed the game Dofus because of their updating etiquette . You still had to update through the site, but it gave a clear definition of what the update was by simply starting up the game.
I've gotten in a habit of opening 'Announcements' before I open the game itself.
...Oh dear I've seemed to have stemmed off.
Tutorials and such, I think I gave my opinion well enough.

Many gamers who are new to games dont jump to the forums till they get a basic feel of the game, a study showing of 70% somthing gamers, what might I say it a dam big number.
In the 70% there are
Gamers who wish to get basic feel for game
Gamers who are just new to gaming and have no idea about guides or forums
Gamers who are anit social.
Face it, all Haven and hearth players play in game and on forums.
A in game place where a noob can find out how to make the basic tools, cut down a tree, make a bed and a chair. find how to get string and fishing spots, and all the terrains of H&H.
The place should be a spot where only they live and can only be in it for 24 hours. If we basic start of the game was made it'd be a hell of alot easyer for new players to be attracted to the game

I was not aware of that large of a percentage.
I know too many idiots, I guess. I know a guy that literally throws out the manual to most stuff.

Yeah, something like that. That was my intention of suggesting it again. I invited a lot of people to this game but they end up playing before I get a chance to guide them and end up quitting. Such as what i almost did when i started as i knew nothing of the game or the features at the time. I looked at the forum of course but the first thing I did before anything was launched the game to give it a go.maze wrote:The place should be a spot where only they live and can only be in it for 24 hours. Yeah i'm not sure what he's talking about...90% of the people on online games i've helped to run/moderate almost never read the rules/faqs.Shoop wrote:I was not aware of that large of a percentage.

This also applied to various websites.
Also, I bet if you asked most people on H&H they probably never read the TOS's of sites they join. It's why such things like "Free trials" are so popular and make businesses soooo much money & why individuals can promote just about any product with a little common sense and make a bunch of sales online.

Re: Tutorial Area for nublets would be nice.
It's been not only mentioned before, but discussed by the devs.
The current learning curve is a bit steep, they plan to address it in the far, far future, partially by implementing tutorial thingers that are like quests but are not quests (sab what was the word you used for em?).
Mostly I think it's another "game is an alpha" issue, the rough edge is a result of the unfinished nature of the game.
The other thing is that Loftar has at several points expressed that he kind of likes the idea of the game being a bit of an exploration and discovery thing, so not knowing how to do everything as soon as you're able to do it can in some ways be regarded as a feature.

Figuring it out yourself is half the fun. I would however be very happy with little tool tips that pop-up when you point to something in the user interface/build menu that would give a mini explanation. Sometimes the name alone isn't enough to figure stuff out. I guess I am too used to playing paradox games where they explain everything with mini popups.theTrav wrote:It's been not only mentioned before, but discussed by the devs.

Other than that, why should we have to cater to the lowest common denominator? If someone is retarded enough to throw out the manual and then come whinging coz they don't understand then thats their problem. Of course, firstly you need a manual of some sort. And the wiki really doesn't give enough information on some topics.

Well the wiki's a bad place to check if you want to figure stuff out yourself and just want basic information. The beginner guides did me pretty solid, those were pretty awesome. Now there are some things that are kinda 'wtf' that you have to dig for a guide for like taming, or combat running across them perchance.Blxz wrote:Figuring it out yourself is half the fun. A tutorial seems a little against the beginning feeling of the game which is very fun due to it's early exploration nature, it's like 'drop them in, see if they survive', it was hard to get since I jumped in without reading any guides or knowing anything until I read the wiki beginner guide (could really use some improvements there...), which helped nowhere near as much as the guide in the howto section which pretty much got me all sorted out and ready to start off properly.
Seems like something that could be easily solved by the community until it's properly solved elsewhere. Which actually brings beginning a 'Newbie town' as an idea, there are already huge projects taken on by groups such as Constantinople being the 'trade city', why not have a group start up a newbie town encampment? Obviously this would need to be a project by someone who's interested, and strong enough, but just an idea.
