Juice to Wine to Vinegar

Post by Sarge »

I've been testing this and have had consistent results:

In the week, I play pretty much the same time after work. Whenever my grapes are mature I harvest and juice them without fail. I have a 30 tile grape patch and I manage to put 2 x harvests worth into a barrel from empty. Every time when it's the 3rd harvest's turn, the juice has turned to wine already (36 litres).

As far as understood it, whenever you add more juice to a barrel, the maturity counter zero's. I am not sure of the extent that crashes may have influenced the delay I may have to harvest asap after maturity due to the fixed time I log in, but can not believe it to be that big and even if it was, then I would argue the maturity rate too fast.

If this is not the case, then would it be a reasonable request to ask that the maturity counter be zero'd every time juice is added to juice in a barrel?

I mentioned wine to vinegar in the subject as, even though not tested, I would suspect that the same settings might be in play.

the maturity counter is not reset to zero, it is averaged to zero, with appropriate weighting for amount added.

i.e.
10 L with 12 hours maturity + 1L (with 0 maturity) would become 11L with 10.9 maturity: ((10*12)+(1*0))/11 = 10.90...

He knows that, he's asking it to be changed so it does reset to zero, so he can age together multiple harvests.

it didn't sound like he knew that, nor do i think it should be like that.

No I didn't know and I appreciate the explanation, especially the formula. Let me try make a convincing argument on why I believe it should be the zero'ing way or a stronger dilution factor:

I am a very active player, I play every day. Every night, if I log on and my grapes are ready I harvest, juice and barrel. I have a 5x6 tile field and I am swimming in wine already, and therefore obviously swimming in vinegar too.

I mention my level of activity in an urgument that it is >than the average hearthling and I can't keep maturity rate low enough. I mention field size as the current formula dictates that larger quantites of fresh juice needs to be added if I wish to reduce the maturity to a manageable level, but I'm already flooded in wine and vinegar.

My argument is that the maturity should either be zero'd or the maturity reduction effect of fresh juice to have an increased impact.

Edit: Please just don't counter-argue an alternative solution to increase grape maturity.

well i'm not sure i understand. why are you worried about the maturity level? is it that you want the wine to take longer to ferment? or you want the wine to stay wine longer?

I want the juice to stay juice longer before turning to wine (see OP)

You could do like me and just keep juice in buckets until you have 100l.

If there is no agreement, then I do that, but I'm trying to report that grape maturity and juice to wine maturity is out of sync.

well i'm not particularly opposed to extending fermentation and vinegarization time. they always seemed a little quick to me anyway.
