Ocean Voyages

Just had a thought....

Many people have been calling for future world gens that include oceans/continents. I've even seen good demonstrations of randomized maps that work this way. Heck, it was hoped that world 3 wouldn't be a spaghetti design but would include oceans...

Anyway, here's a reason I would love oceans: long distance voyages done automatically.

You know how we can now build roads which you can have your character follow without going 'click' 'click' 'click' 'click' 'click' 'click' ... providing somebody has put in the work of building the road, you save yourself the hassle, and can go and do something while your character walks.

Now imagine something similar with sailing boats and oceans, except instead of roads you have charts. I know the devs have talked about using the stars at some point for navigation or something. Why not have a skill that lets you take down your location, and place it on a chart. You then use the chart on your boat, i.e. right click it on your wheel or something, to have your boat automatically follow it. Long distance voyages would be much cooler if you could do them without having to star at blue for hours on end just clicking.

I would completely back oceans and ocean voyages so long as we don't end up with a GTA styled map in the middle of an endless ocean

Oceans would be great.
For those who don't like going through a seemingly never-ending ocean, maybe we could add scenery on the way, like ice-bergs etc..

I really don't see how oceans would make anything better...
1)For something to be an ocean it would probably need to be at least 1SG big thus taking away from total SGs
2)You can't wrap the world due to how it expands so it would need to be one of the SGs already in place
3)It would make travel (given the current system) a lot harder.

B)Dem bridges man, dem bridges
Oceans shouldn't be bothered with, what are you going to transport over such an area? What if you just want to cross to the other side? You think boating is fun?

There's just a lot wrong with oceans that wouldn't fit with the current system that would need to be addressed/prettied-up before oceans were introduced the way I see it.
