Was just talking with somebody about the first world, back in the days before quality.
Anybody from back them have any thought about what the game is like now compared to then?
Combined with the lp system, I'm feeling that H&H is a fair bit less about the emergent complexity I was hoping to see in the future when I started out a year ago, and more and more about grinding.
Agree? Disagree?
Is it likely to get better? Worse?

Re: Quality
Every game like this will always have some way, shape, or form of grinding for exp/lp/whatever else you use to advance. I think quality is slightly good though, it diversifies the game up a bit. It's too easy to grind your ways to high quality, though.

Re: Quality
wouldn't it be even more grinding (lp+stats) without quality?

Re: Quality
That was my thought too. Back in world one you made a batch of steel for all your villagers once and then it was hunting foxes only (since default terrain was grassland, for all those who didn't play in world 1). Maybe have a farmer brewing beer. The complexity since then has emerged quite a bit in my experience. To get to high quality products you need specialists, you need teamwork, you need the will to maintain several villages or claims at ressource spots. With the changing food system and the addition of more and more ingredients, spices and the like there is a whole new aspect coming up. You also have stuff like foraging, prospecting, taming etc.
So to sum it up, although there sure are alot of things that could use an overhaul (being discussed and worked on constantly), the game has come a long way and has become way more interesting than back in world one. Quality being one of the mechanics in this that keeps people playing despite the lack of other late game content.

Re: Quality
If quality was removed (without anything else taking it's place) it would limit the types of grinding, not the amount. Would make you feel like you're grinding more though, yes.Grog wrote:wouldn't it be even more grinding (lp+stats) without quality?

Re: Quality
While it is some kind of "grinding", it's different from the stat/lp-based grinding. For one, it feels more natural that there is food and equipment of varying quality. Another part is, that the quality-concept is rather unique to H&H among RPGs.
Are you sure it's really reducing the complexity of the world? After all, it's a cornerstone of the trading as it developed here, since it actually forms an economic profile to villages and players.

Quality makes H&H unique. If it goes, I and many others will quit.
