Ignore these guys in the thread. Dawadio and others comes from a group called the pedo gang, and they go to threads to shit them up.Dawidio123 wrote:Without mentioning anything specific I would advise any families or possible minors that might be seeing this thread against joining this village due to reasons i cannot provide on the forums because of the moderation. Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

EDITED TO KEEP IT RELEVANT:Zentetsuken wrote:Relying on the building of extensive infrastructure to fast travel you far away from the village just to afford the opportunity of playing the game normally is a hilarious and sad cope.
You can't tell me that managing travel weariness and teleporting around (only once enough roads are actually built to make 100+ people's foraging needs realistic) is a better new player early game experience than just logging into the middle of nowhere.
They will still be struggling for days and weeks, and will ultimately not get the same enjoyable experience they would in a smaller group.
I genuinely feel bad for any brand new players you guys lured in.
Everyone knows that the hermit experience can be had anytime/anywhere, whether already in a village or not, simply by starting new alt and randomly spawning in world. There is really only one advantage (or disadvantage depending on your point of view and personal preferences) to starting the hermit life early on in world start. It isn't to have a fighting chance to compete with large groups, that will never happen. It is actually the opposite, to get the full un-nerfed hardcore hermit experience where death is a weekly if not daily occurrence (playing with alts and keeping main mostly offline is really the only way in that environment).
It stays that way for a while though so there is plenty of time to get in on that masochistic thrill ride.
Other than that (scratching that masochistic itch) anyone can get roughly the same hermit experience no matter how late in the world's existence one starts. If you aren't at all masochistic then I'd recommend holding off hermiting till later when most PVPers are busy attacking or defending large villages or much later when the world is old and mostly in ruins.
For the large village experience however, players do not have nearly so large and open a window to jump in. Especially to get the full experience of getting in on the ground floor at world/village start.
Most large villages gradually slow down, burn out, log in less and less and ultimately quit after they've seen all/done all several times over and begin to get bored. So that window of opportunity starts out wide open at world start and gradually closes the more time passes.
Meanwhile, hermits are left far far behind in progress in comparison to villagers. Not that it matters if you just want to get that hardcore survival experience but if you want to learn and experience PVP and be able to compete with others in that area there is no getting around the need for village support.
Starting out in a village to make friends and focus more on learning how to play is the best move for a total noob who will almost certainly not survive on their own first time playing and will die over and over before they figure it all out, if they dont rage quit first.
Later, once village life slows down and gets a little boring the now more experienced noob can either start fresh with a new random spawning character to begin hermit life or use an alt that starts out in the village with whatever starting equipment he/she wishes to start hermit life with.
World 16 is only 4 days old [as of this edit] and already has a player created world map with the main/known/starting continents outlined. I'm sure every Thingwall has been located by now and roads navigating the continents are already being set up. So I guess you can choose the continent and general area you would prefer to hermit in whether you start now or later.
There is however the matter of where the most dangerous large villages are located. If you play for a while in a village before beginning hermit life, it should be pretty well known by then which provinces should probably be avoided.
As an added bonus, the semi-experienced noob (village experience but no hermit experience) has the option to invite a friend along to share the hermit experience either sharing a single hermitage or near each other as neighbors. Having already played together for months in village you two (or more) can trust each other more than you can some random player you met on forum or only recently met in game.

Being a Hermit is not punishing.... I haven't died in years. Obviously that is due to experience but I doubt any new player is going to realistically struggle that hard and id argue they will struggle more in a large village where combat and character building are alot more relevant. Also you don't learn how to play the game in a large village you just learn how to speedrun to late game. Learning how to play the game is the most enjoyable part of Haven and it is something they'd be denied.
In addition: starting middle of the world is not really fun as a Hermit because you can find q200+ stuff in random ruins which is so far ahead of you that you gain progress far quicker doing ruins raiding than you do grinding... sometimes being a ruin Raider can be fun but it grows stale. The best way to have fun is to start early and begin your own progression cycle. You can ruin raid after people eclipse you and quit but having your own slow grind from the start of a world is way more fun as a Hermit IMO. The Windows you described exist for everyone playing the game not just village players

You can always, you know, choose not to raid ruins in search for high Q stuff.The_Lich_King wrote: Speaking as a multi-world Hermit who hasn't been in a large village since like w11,

Yes but knowing that stuff 100s of Q higher than yours can be obtained with a simple right click, right next door makes your own grind feel quite pointless. Even if you don't raid it still feels bad. Best time to start as a Hermit is early world when nothing interrupts your own cycle....Hesufo wrote:You can always, you know, choose not to raid ruins in search for high Q stuff.The_Lich_King wrote: Speaking as a multi-world Hermit who hasn't been in a large village since like w11,

Based on this post or do you have something to back this up? Have you ever played at WB? Right now we have a bunch of people having spies in a spruce friendly village, imagine playing/pvping gamefor 10 years and need to spy WB to get some leverage against us, where most ppl that pvp just have 1 world experiencedafels wrote:https://steamcommunity.com/app/3051280/discussions/0/4626979145080925023/

No, I haven't played in WB. Does this make HIS experience in WB anything less?TheServant wrote:Based on this post or do you have something to back this up? Have you ever played at WB? And I don't think it has anything to do with spy stuff

when you say this is a good description in what to expect, implies you probably see it happening often or somehow some kind of understanding about our village. This is 1 input in a 200 man village, of course things like this is expected. And the spy stuff is pretty related, believe me. Not saying he is a spy tho.dafels wrote: No, I haven't played in WB.
