Some games have a popup on their login or startup screen alerting users of planned downtime.

Might be worth setting up a secondary web service for this that the game can ping for server status and get given some kind of state or message. atleast alleviates steam normies who won't necessarily see the thread/forum. Steam sometimes isn't great for seeing game news if you have a lot of friends playing the game saturating your 'feed' with achievement unlocks etc.

I personally haven't seen games do much more than that or a game update to announce it

I made this suggestion almost a decade ago https://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=43006

lets get a patch that lets players have easier access to getting revenge on players that get off on tossing their claims, and stealing their study desks during this maintence period... Nidbane Fetters are great but not available to starting out players. I have been playing years and only seen nidbanes extremely rarely in late game...

This leaves starting players with no recourse for justice... Lets make the nidbane feathers more common and easily accessaible to new players by needing only 10 exporation and perception to see them, and have them as common as a weed, appearing all over where there are crime scents. Let players send forth an army of grim reapers to the criminals of the H&H world to bring justice to the world..

You think you want this but if you think about it for 5 seconds... you don't. Apart from literally killing all pvp in the game because spamming nidbanes would be the new meta for pvp since it is no risk to you and if you spam enough almost garantees death, It would also work counter-intuitively to how you want to use it... Imagine someone is stealing stuff from you on your claim and you use No-rage rules to aggro him on your claim. You just left a battery sent and you BETTER believe that they will be spamming your ass with 1000 nidbanes as a method of sieging you. Remember if you can get it in the early game so can the griefers.

In addition: Pills can we plz have this moved to critique and ideas and not be in the maintenance thread, ty <3

fuck that. So in a month or so when I bash the wall of an abandoned claim, I'm going to get punished by a new player sending a ghost after me just because he can? Criminal acts aren't always used to cause harm

Gotta say, the server is surprisingly accessible for being behind a router that's down... I do wonder what's (not?) happening over there.

Do we dare risk it, and play the devils game of 'Lets bring the server back up and watch it become unaccessible the moment you bring it back online?'

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted, but the progress page does say that it's "in progress", so I think I'll wait further for now, at least.
