Re: Excuse me M'Lady, would you like some food with your pepper?
i'm doing more than fine on just pumpkin pies. The thing about con is that there are no foods that give you massive amounts of con. Otoh most decent foods give con in addition to a desireable FEP. So you'll always have more than enough con if you do a lot of pumpkin pies and piros which are extremely practical to mass produce. Slightly less so the piros tho.

Yeah, I've had no trouble with con.
It works, it's somewhat enjoyable along with the whole farming theme, but it's not as exciting as a system where you could come up with your own recipes
Cooking in general I don't see as an exciting mechanic... Gather parts, assemble, and bam, you've got your product.Chakravanti wrote:I don't see why pepper 'isn't and exciting mechanic'

Cooking is boring for the same reason leather is, it's almost fully filling bullshit and keeping stuff nearby. The only major difference being leather needs to be near a well or river to be easy to do.
Ovens are extremely aggravating and if cooking was faster this wouldn't be problem, ideas such as bigger ovens, modular ovens, or other such things would make cooking overall more enjoyable.
Dynamic recipes should be a given in a sandbox game.
I'm not sure about pepper taking less room, I do agree with it not making any sense due to real life mechanics, but if I went through and listed all the things that don't I'd have a very long list.
Right now pepper isn't that outbalanced because of the change in types and quantity needed, as well as their function.

Has any of you guys ever tried good hemp or an ok set table? You wouldn't even think about pepper being in the game. It is the most useless stuff EVER. For what exactly do you use it? Either I have a one slice/one stat food or a two slices/ one stat food. If not you have done something wrong or are using a totally useless kind of food.

Doing pepper is for people who have nothing better to do with their time. Even at double the fep producing twice the food is still easier/ more enjoyable to do and no such bullshit as cauldron and herb tables (I hate using those).

the sheer amount of bullshit required to produce one unit of pepper > the payoffChakravanti wrote:DO you mean that it's not worth it or that the process itself is thoroughly unenjoyable?
apparently they just boosted it though so i'm not sure how the balance is now

Re: Excuse me M'Lady, would you like some food with your pepper?
Because of the fact that it needs herb tables, it's not as practical to mass pepper. Given that 1 pepper tile = 2 peppercorn, it will mean that 8 tiles will fill an herb table. If you try to make up to 48 tiles, that's 6 tables occupied not counting anything else that you have that uses table (tree pots, I'm looking at you guys). Then you have the boiling before that and the grinding after that for...almost 9 black pepper, or 18 half quality ones. Most likely you will almost end up a cupboard worth of food if you have equal size field for crops. Also, peppermill is pretty much useless. You can get either 1 q90 pepper which is 3x quality with mill or 2 q45 (which is little over 2x EACH) without the mill.
That being said, I don't want the flipside happening as well where you can pretty much sprinkle every food with pepper. We have tables and cured hemp to help and making pepper too available will cause stats to rocket. What can be done is make pepper much less frustrating to produce by cutting the time it takes to boil them as well as dry them. The other idea is to use either (int x 0.75 and (farm+cook) x 0.125) determine extra chance of creating another black pepper from the recipe. Basically two ideas used together to boost pepper's usefulness further which making it less tedious.

That's why I'm talking about the cost of pepper, not the benefit. As it stands, it doesn't matter what the benefit is, the only thing it'd be useful for is cheese.Dataslycer wrote: That being said, I don't want the flipside happening as well where you can pretty much sprinkle every food with pepper.
At a lower cost, not using the mill would be efficient. Given the high cost of pepper meaning it would only apply to cheese, then to do a peppermill or not depends entirely on your FEP bar relevant to the cheese

Re: Excuse me M'Lady, would you like some food with your pepper?
Pepper should cost as much as it does but require fewer tiles to use.
The real problem is that it's attempting to fit a niche that's already taken by hemp and tables. If it was alone in this category it would be worth it for sure, but it's not. Hemp is far too easy to raise, as is feasting through good tables, and they beat out pepper, however if you add them all properly depending on how everything is setup, it works out.
With that said it's easier to raise Table Q/HempQ to a point that it would meet what PepperQ would do, and probably farther.
This new boost should really help a lot meaning 150% increase in FEPs with q90 peppers.
