In case the "normal" prt was referring to the fact that it lasts only a limited time before decaying - just stockpile all the relevant materials beforehand, and build when necessary. Most (sane) people give up when seeing an active defense (unless they really hate you, like in the Whatever Bay situation.)
Doesn't cata outrange the archery tower most of the time?
Catapult can only damage other catapults and archery towers. Just by building couple of towers (with at least some sense of strategy and timing) you can make it very time-consuming for an attacker to make any progress with a Battering Ram, only engine that can currently break a Wall.

I’m not trying to nitpick, but there are also some inaccuracies in the Wiki's description of the Archery Tower

It turns out this is a bug, I ask Jorba or Loftar to correct this drug-addicted defect

That's how it used to be in w15, I could swear. There was nothing in viewtopic.php?f=39&t=76519 saying that it would be changed. The precedent for "questionable base defense changes" is present though, in the form of "Removed build preventing obstacle from around Cave Entrances in the overworld. It is now, again, possible to build near Cave Entrances." which gave us the "pclaim in front of cave entrance" -meta.

I can understand if someone argues "wall damage with Battering Ram only will make it too lopsided for defender" but catapults have the problem that attacker catapults only need enough range to reach the wall, while defender catapults need to shoot over it, effectively adding -1 to their range rolls.

At one point we had a spat about Wiki being held to Catch-22 where people can either be told "why did you not read the wiki" or "why did you blindly trust the wiki" depending on the situation. However, using the Snekkja page as an example, most facts stated on the page can be reasonably tested. Compare this to building a second base, breaking Thing Peace, and building Battering Ram + Catapult, just to test what Jorbtar had in mind the last time they updated the game.

Prelude: World 15
Removed "siege power" and "siege boost" from claims and villages. Battering rams and catapults can now attack all objects after 24 hours, quite simply. The difference between palisades and brick walls are back to being their respective health.

I don’t know you, but judging by the fact that I’m only playing the first world and collecting reliable information, you’re stuck in world 10, I think
