Eh, what did we expect from a game that doesn't teach you the fundamentals of protecting yourself. It's much easier for people to take their anger out on the game rather than the people who pissed them off.

I bet you most of the negative comments are around getting murder hobo'd. Despite the reviews and game description warning people. I'm not going to fact check that at all tho.

I remember responding to a negative review about murder hobos with "Yea the game does a poor job of telling you how to stay safe, but it used to be much worse."

Later that day, I was exploring and collecting cave clay with an alt. I decide to travel along an ocean coast in a rowboat. Run into a Snekkja. They aggro and KO the alt. Break the boat. Leave the alt to drown without even touching the body.

Of course I could've stayed closer to the non-deep water, but you have to admit what kind of "optics" this kind of behavior gives to new players. Someone kicks in your teeth just for the sake of it, they don't even bother going through your pockets to make it a mugging with a "proper" motive.

It's like Rust, people will kill you on sight/troll you outside your base for hours
What's the difference? What does that game do that garners such positive opinions, compared to haven and hearth?

Difference is time wasted in Haven is much worse, and the fact that in many of those other games people are on much fairer footing. A gun in the hands of one guy works like a gun, two dudes can have swords in haven and one is untouchable to the other, that kind of gap doesn't exist in any other survival crafting game. Further more, if you just play Haven, properly and the right way, you'll never figure out how any of the pvp or crime systems work at all, which is a complete failure of this game.

If the combat system wasn't just flat out bad people wouldn't have as much issue, but the fact of the matter is Jorb, and Loftar have left the combat, siege, and crime systems fester for way to long.

The easy parallel is to why it feels so much worse to get wiped in Ark than Rust. Having weeks/months invested (which you can't recover without another investment of weeks/months,) wiped out in like 20 minutes sucks worse than having your shitshack and safe knocked over. Not that I'm implying that's 1:1 to having a character killed, but the answer to your question is it's simply the difference in time/effort invested versus effort required to remove that investment.

That's what happens when you refuse to put in even a modicum of effort towards managing your community. It deserves to be rated worse.

After so many years in this game, I must agree in 100%
I hate and love this game at the same time. JLo don’t show to much effort this world.

Some diferences:
1. Combat system in Hafen is shit, it could probably do better with moba style combat, so it is understandable that alot of people don't want to get involved or learn the combat in this game

Getting into combat/keeping up with it is too time consuming in regards of grinding stats/gear if you have a job and if you can't play that much as neets you're basically locked out of it hopelessly unless you are in a group with other neets that carry you which is not that big case in Rust since it all that takes is only gear and you can be lethal to anyone

2. Average hermit/village will never be able to do anything against a group/faction griefer/pkiller, in Rust you can craft a cheap ass gun and you atleast have a chance to hurt them or even get rid of the griefer in no matter how shit situation you are in. In Hafen they are almost invincible, they have almost 0 risk vs the average hermit/village.

Jorb tried fixing this by adding some more convoluted mechanics to the game, which shows how clueless they actually are about griefing and combat in general

3. There's no group vs group combat past 2nd month of the game that would keep the griefing somewhat in check, in Rust you get countered all the time if you try to do something funny and it is risky. In Hafen this is somewhat true until 1 faction/group dominates and countering faction quits because of point 1 and point 2

Also, hermits should take a look at themselves in the mirror, most of them are cancer to interact with, this also might be of the sources for the issues they are having
