Yay more tedium and even more advantages for no lifers...oh and fyi q of crops is kinda dependant on how often you take care of them.

No numbers where mentioned. And who says you always have to get the highest of quality all the time?burgingham wrote:Yay more tedium and even more advantages for no lifers...oh and fyi q of crops is kinda dependant on how often you take care of them.
The average player could be able to make average quality crops with little effort. While that dedicated farmer whom puts in more effort, despite being relatively new gets rewarded with good crops.
Sounds fair to me as opposed to the current system, where in order to catch up with the older players you would have to do even more boring grind to finally compete in the market.
As for no lifers, im sure people who put more time in the game should get rewarded more highly than the average player?
The only thing we don't want from no lifers is for the average player to suffer because of them, not the fact that they are superior.
Therefore I repeat myself by saying the average player can easily produce an average quality crop, and that is enough for him.
While no lifers can get good quality crops through dedication and that would be enough for them too.
How? The only part of 'taking care of crops' i've experienced so far is the quality filtering, which is a quick 5 minutes job. After that youre done. Not much dedication involved.burgingham wrote:.oh and fyi q of crops is kinda dependant on how often you take care of them.

The problem is that if things are more dependant on time than they are on skill, it becomes a race, especially when previous experience and knowing what to do come into place it's a race that no one except those who start at the beginning stand a chance in.
As it stands now due to increased LP cost for example it might take only a few weeks, maybe 2 months to get q300 crops if you're dedicated and continue raising your crop quality diligently and properly as well as keeping your Farming a good deal above.
The only real limiter at all are natural resources and some things (Farming -cough cough-) are completely void of these limits and are quite simply an LP/Time race.

Is this a reply to my comment?DatOneGuy wrote:The problem is that if things are more dependant on time than they are on skill, it becomes a race, especially when previous experience and knowing what to do come into place it's a race that no one except those who start at the beginning stand a chance in.

Assuming that it isn't, my above idea kinda solves that problem.
My idea doesn't take note of when you started, but instead it takes into account the effort you put into that crop to affect quality.
Unfortunately it can't solve the race to secure natural resources, like high q clay spots and mines.

I don't see a problem with limited resource availability. If everyone was supposed to have equal everything, we wouldn't have the quality system in the first place.

I agree there isn't a problem with it. But the only problem with it though is that, with each new generation of players, it becomes harder to find limited resources, like mines and high q clay spots to trade with for other goods. I suggested smaller respawnable mines and finite unreplenishable clay spots so noobs can be completely certain that they be able to mine someday but jorb turned me down because he thought this.Potjeh wrote:I don't see a problem with limited resource availability. The outer grids are chock-full of these resources.

Errr what? It's not because you can replant carrots every 12 (or 8? I don't know really, not like my farming skill can keep up) that you can do that with every crops.DatOneGuy wrote:As it stands now due to increased LP cost for example it might take only a few weeks, maybe 2 months to get q300 crops if you're dedicated and continue raising your crop quality diligently and properly as well as keeping your Farming a good deal above.
Let's take wheat. You can replant it once every 48 hours (I know, it's a couple hours less but fuck no lifers) and gain, let's be generous here, a +4 quality upgrade on the harvest. This is an average of +2 quality per day. Or 150 days (5 months) to reach q300 wheat. An order of magnitude over a few weeks really.

Probably true. But you can't deny that one day all mines would be claimed by someone. It's inevitable and the newer generation won't be able to experience that part of the game.Potjeh wrote:The outer grids are chock-full of these resources.
You could suggest adding new grids, but to me that's not the best solution. Game devs must always aim to achieve balance in a game to the point where they don't have to interfere with the game anymore.
Jorb wrote:Location, distance and isolation provides ample limitations. We do not add supergrids because we want to cure a lack of mines, but because we want a bigger world, quite simply

Actually, adding new grids is the only way I see to cope with a growing population, lest the game turn into a giant world onesque slum.
