Want to discuss about new world/wipe could be started underground, in caves, like lvl 5 out of total 10-11(where 0 is surface and 10/11 is lowest level like 9th now), so you can dig below and above to ocassionally gets to the surface to sail and shit, and also huge water undergdound, lakes, rivers, to also travel, sailing and stuff, even under world oceans.
With angry fishes (not only cave anglers), new birbs, underground beasts and stuff.
Vote for 16.3 (wipe 16.2 asap xD)

Re: New World from Underground
At level 5 everything would be too hard to mine. If going up (there's no way right now) worked as going down, we'd be fucked because we couldn't even place the pyre. And we wouldn't have the materials (especially sand for the pyre and wax for the minehole) to build it.
Also underground it would be a super difficult start, as there's too few things. No critters, so no bones without combat.
Very aggressive species that spawn either spawn from nowhere -boreworms- or split -slimes.
Rather than doing this, which the game is nowhere close to allow, I'd like to see more contenta that allows for full underground play (at least after the first few days).
Right now the biggest obstacle to this is farming. We have a couple of underground trees as we go down, we have a few animals, we have some shallow water for clay and deep one for fishing, we even have boughs since mound trees have been added. But farming is a complete no-go. Particularly fine-fiber farming, which is not optional unlike some other crops.
We either need a way to farm underground, or a flax/hemp-equivalent mushroom if we want to keep underground farming limited to shrooms on chipped wood.

Re: New World from Underground
Maybe for a challenge world with special rule sets it could be interesting, surface might be a frozen wasteland filled with ferocious beasts or something. Going to the surface may be possible but could require warm clothing/special equipment and maintaining heat sources. As was mentioned though it requires a lot of the mechanics to be modified so that they can be performed underground, along with acquiring necessary resources.
One issue I can think of however is that current mechanics prevent players from being able to claim upwards, for example if a village idol were built on level 5 it would be impossible to extend that village claim to level 4 and above. That might apply to similar things too like construction upwards such as with a minehole, I'm not sure if that would be possible.

Re: New World from Underground
lots of interesting Experimental World Ideas in here.
They will require a good deal of efforts from a certain Duo of Gnomes, however. Shall we place bets?

They could make it possible, pyre for lower minehole, huge torch for upper, and stairs like constructuion.Kaios wrote:Maybe for a challenge world with special rule sets it could be interesting, surface might be a frozen wasteland filled with ferocious beasts or something. Flags too, for now this is just limitation of current settings i suppose, they could make it in a sec, to make flags work at surface when idol underground.

Yes, but within this world lvl5 coulde be the softest, 4-6 harder, 3-7 even harderKamekono wrote:At level 5 everything would be too hard to mine. Sand might be there too, or crush quartz into sand, because i offer big open spaces like bubbles all over the world and really wide rivers/lakes
Critters to add, maybe kill centipeds for hitin, add bigger one, for chitin
Farming the most exciting part, because there is some to add, and farm on chipped tiles, or any mushroom like shit to farm, some crystall shit instead of beehives )) joy of discovery fantasy xD yes

I get your excitement, but you do realise that what you're asking is pretty much remaking the whole game?reqvaa wrote:Yes, but within this world lvl5 coulde be the softest, 4-6 harder, 3-7 even harderKamekono wrote:At level 5 everything would be too hard to mine. If we already had all that stuff in the game, and it was just a matter of changing starting conditions or map generation, it would be different.
Best thing you can hope for, is to slowly see those changes introduced in the next decade.
