Gilds on 16.2: Exploitable Bug, UI Glitch, or design intent?

Post by xyzzy57 »

I've had some odd results gilding equipment on 16.2. I suspect they would not be considered as bugs, or not as bugs worth the trouble of fixing.

But I don't want the book thrown at me for "exploiting bugs", so I'm describing them here.

Here's the scenario:

- create a piece of equipment, and a gild that shares a gilding attribute
- apply gild to equipment.
- get message suggesting maybe 10-20% chance of successful gild
- then get message saying the gild failed
- THEN see that the gilded equipment has an available slot!
- create a second gild, that may or may not share a gilding attribute with the equipment
- apply it, get a similar chance of success, and the same failure message
- but this time there's no open slot available

I've done this three times, always with the same result. I don't yet have the resources to do throw-away tests.

If I start with ungilded equipment (one slot) and gild that doesn't match on gilding attribute, I get much the same messaging (maybe lower odds of success), and no open slot

This basically looks similar to results when a character with tailoring credo applies the first gild to an object on 16.0

I suspect what we have here is changed behavior that didn't include updates to the messages produced, and I'm not "exploiting a bug" every time I gild a compatible piece of equipment.

But since the situation is ambiguous, here's a bug report.

p.s. It's conceivable that the incorrect messages are coming _from the client_ rather than the server. If so, you should know that I'm using a customized client.

Some equipment has multiple slots now. Are you sure you're gilding onto 1-slot gear? Which specific gear items have you been experiencing this with? 'Failing' a gild just means a slot gets locked (while the gild does get applied), while succeeding applies the gild while keeping the slot open.
