You know this was the first patch since Hafen launch, right? There was tons of basic stuff to fix, of course there would be a lot more fixes. Towards the end of the world the patches were relatively basic.Nightdawg wrote:GOD LOOK AT THE AMOUNT OF FIXING AND POLISHING DONE TO ALREADY EXISTING MECHANICS AND STUFF, rather than adding more tedium and birds
this patch is legendary by today's standards god dayum

Sorry, I haven't been following for awhile and just jump in and out of the game from time to time - but am I understanding this correctly, the game isn't even f2p anymore, even with paying for a verified account, you're limited to a useless 14hrs a week? Seems crazy weird for a game that's basically an idler and just stays open in the background at all times, or am I missunderstanding something, is play time != actual access to the game?

nah, devs got bullied hard and reverted all of those disgusting changes, the game has been fully f2p again for yearsMycroSparks wrote:Sorry, I haven't been following for awhile and just jump in and out of the game from time to time - but am I understanding this correctly, the game isn't even f2p anymore, even with paying for a verified account, you're limited to a useless 14hrs a week? Re: Game Development: A Sound Badgering
Oh, thank god, would've instantly killed the game if you were limited by time, since the whole premise of the game is to have it on for 24/7. I do understand their need to monetize, and I've been subscribed for each month I play and I enjoy the ratio of benefits to cost, especially since it allows for f2p to still be viable for others, but I do see their motivation behind, just hope that they reconsider and actually spend some brain power on a better solution, because just off the top of my head, there would be many ways to monetize it in a fun way that could also net them 20-30$ a month per their player just from the fact of how happy they are with the game and its monetization, i.e. like League was at the start, nobody even liked the recolored skins yet everyone was sinking 100$ into the game just because it didn't hide the game behind an initial paywall. People love spending money on hobbies they enjoy, abuse that fact, don't go the other route of destroying their hobby and demanding money in return for freeing itRegulus2424 wrote:nah, devs got bullied hard and reverted all of those disgusting changes, the game has been fully f2p again for yearsMycroSparks wrote:Sorry, I haven't been following for awhile and just jump in and out of the game from time to time - but am I understanding this correctly, the game isn't even f2p anymore, even with paying for a verified account, you're limited to a useless 14hrs a week? P.S. Since I usually play once a year for a few weeks (sometimes months) I also have to praise the devs for the added content - the game really feels fresher each time I come back, and the added variety of animals is such a great content adition, as well as the many QOL changes from 15years ago. I'll keep subscribing every time I come back to play the game as long as you keep doing it, there's still a lot of friction within the game that should be tackled which I feel would lead to more people being more inclined to subscribe and support you, although it's not that easy from a design standpoint to remove/improve them without destroying the hardcore feel which is probably the main aspect of the game. Sorry for yapping - great job on the updates devs, keep em coming <3

Re: Game Development: A Sound Badgering
personally I don't think that the people that did not care about players (including you) getting extorted for hats bought with real money for YEARS deserve any sort of monetary support, but that's just my opinion, mate

Re: Game Development: A Sound Badgering
Fair perspective, I just never took that personally and looked at it more as another notch that adds to the hardcoreness of the game, although it did suck losing the subscription hats at times, at the end of the day the hat is just a silly visual, in my eyesRegulus2424 wrote:personally I don't think that the people that did not care about players (including you) getting extorted for hats bought with real money for YEARS deserve any sort of monetary support, but that's just my opinion, mate

Re: Game Development: A Sound Badgering
Jorb changed got a substantial percentage of the players into a mindset where they would buy hats and subs after each wipe regardless of how much they are fucked by the updates or the lack of them. I'm starting to think that Stockholm syndrome was actually named after Jorbtar. So I don't see why you are surprised by the amount of the community interaction by Jorbinski in this thread, he literally had the most important reason imaginably for him to do so at the time.
