Wash your mouth with soap, young lad. And, no.

Re: Cougars > Tame > Cats
My mother had a friend who once found an abandoned black kitten in the forest nearby, so she took it in out of pity. This woman had a daughter, by the way.DatOneGuy wrote:Domesticating a large cat is a ridiculous idea, in fact domesicating anything larger than a bobcat is very unlikely to happen. There have been stories of raising some from babies and having them away from their parents but it's simply never happened, not to say it can't, but you it just hasn't. We've never tried because they're simply too large and powerful for us to rightfully domesticate. You can give the illusion of taming whatever you want, but to actually tame such a beast is crazy.
This should go right out the window with bear taming ; Spawning Lynx would be nice though.
So after several months, the cat grew, and grew, and grew, and eventually a friend of hers pointed out that the cat is far too big to be a house cat, black cat.
A few weeks later, she heard screaming from her daughter's room. She ran to her, and found the young panther attacking the kid. She fought the cat off and kicked it out, where it slinked into the night.
True story, shitty event. The kid is pretty fucked up when it comes to cats, now.
In any case, cats are a good idea. You should find a dead rat or something in your house some time half-way through the night which gives unhappy thoughts till removed. My cat brings me half-dead and doubley-angry bees. I am not amused by this. He piles them in the porch, where they all have broken legs and wings and are shuffling about in circles.
Dogs should help with hunting rabbits. Dogs are able to be trained, alike to the FEP bar, to be faster, or stronger for defending places - Dogs could fight off thieves, for example.
My two cents.

I think wyrd is still going to be in the game, it just won't replace LP, something else will. Or at least that's the impression I got.

At this point it seems everything in the current version of the game will be replaced, or that's my impression anyway.ThirdEmperor wrote:I think wyrd is still going to be in the game, it just won't replace LP, something else will. Or at least that's the impression I got.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a terrible thing, the fact that it'll be continually expanded and no one knows where it'll head is exciting, but the fact that what I'm playing now can turn to either a game I despise or a game love even mor (evne possible?) is crazy.

Wyrd to your mother.jorb wrote:Wash your mouth with soap, young lad. And, no.
Sorry i just had to.
Anyway yes people have tamed and kept as pets large cats, bears, chimps, etc, all kinds of stuff. Dunno where you got that from DatOneGuy. Unless you mean they're never fully tamed in which case, I hate to tell you, but neither is your dog
If large cats and other "wild" beasts were allowed to be tamed then it should be something along the lines of taming other animals, but the tests never stop. That means from time to time your "pet" is going to attack you and its not going to be a pet any longer unless you manage to not only beat it (because you don't want it dead) but make it submit (quell). What this would translate to is you being incapable of owning a large animal that is more powerful than you, unless you've got some buddies to help you control it(or unless the whole idea in the first place was to simply get a bunch of non-despawning animals and releasing them in between your two wall layers for any friendly folks trying to break in
For domestic type cats (which we domesticated from larger cats, probably the african wildcat... seriously how did you think we got domestic cats without taming and controlling wild cats for countless generations?) they could have many uses altho the most obvious one would only be possible if rats were made to have some detrimental effect. Or, quite possibly, they could have no BAD effects from rats but have the presence of a cat stop rat spawns within x tiles and give crops a boost similar to beehives within that same ammount of tiles. They could also add a small buff to healing whilst within this range (to represent the lack of rat-borne disease and parasites). Barring this they could be used to hunt small game such as rabbits and chickens in large number - you could have a "hunt" option on the cat where it will immediately take off at run speed for the nearest such small game and then kill the whole lot of them for you to go around and pickup. As is it is of course extremely easy to grab any rat or flock of chickens but it would be neat nonetheless. Pets of any sort could also of course add a boost to the happiness bar whenever that gets around to doing something. Also if poisons are ever added a small pet could be useful for testing food you find
Now dogs... dogs are where there are some real possibilities
