I'm just curious if anyone has considered building a massive road by hiring a group of people in exchange for coins or something. Something stretching from Constantinople way out far. It'd do a lot of good for the game in general. People could set up trading posts or even Inns along the trail, it would make navigation to the major city simpler, you could have guards actively patrol it, players seeking the evil path could become high-way men and rob it, it would make travel by wagon a hell of a lot easier for major traders.
I don't see construction as that hard, you'd have 3 teams. One would be lumber jacks that would travel ahead and clear trees. plow men would follow behind and plow in a straight line about 5-8 tiles wide. Stone layers would follow behind them and of course lay stone.
Of course hills and rivers would get in the way but these would just have to be managed by turns in the road or leaving boats near the gaps.

Re: Ever think of a mass road?
A few problems with this:
1)Rivers are frequent and would mean requiring rafts to travel them
2)Traversing it to stop griefers is retarded, no one would do such a thing even with milestones.
3)Paying wouldn't be an issue, finding people bored enough is.
Considering the world is square it would also just be a huge pain in the ass to have 2 going each way as well.

Considering he means nople you'd still have to cross a few, but yeah only near nople, so that's not that bad until you get 'in the SG'.sabinati wrote:supergrid edges don't have rivers or hills that cross them
First time getting to nople is the only reason I could think of, or livestock trades.Potjeh wrote:Why use roads if you can fast travel?

Re: Ever think of a mass road?
Wagon Trails would be the main reason I would build one...
After the 100th time in under one hour of getting stuck on that ONE PIXEL of tree or stone I nearly said fuck it and would have done a village Idol<>HF port to get my chests home in a Boat, If I had not Travelweariness and a Dream on me...
I was thinking that when I get a chance I might start one either at World's End or at 'Nopel itself and head in the Cardinal Directions of N,S,E,W and see what happens there. Of course getting the news out to people who are built in the area ahead yet wish to remain hidden OR are just Luz Players would be a hassle, seeing as they would kill ya before you even got the chance to ask, Hey can I build a road past your Village???

I'll help build the road if anyone is actually serious about it.
Of another era.

Re: Ever think of a mass road?
Get 10+ people on it and I'll consider helping out.
Also, a serious project please. Not some "Hurr durr CUT THERE NO THERE!!!" Map it out before hand, figure out where it should go, and do it properly.

Re: Ever think of a mass road?
There has been a project like this before, it was actually one of the reasons flame joined Sodom. He wanted to build that road, at least between Sodom and New Brodgar (when it was still alive). Until this day there is not a single piece of pavement between the two cities, but if you people want to give it a second try I am sure Sodom can provide some food, basic tools like a pickaxe to get stuff done faster and what not.
