Not now they aren't! Not enough of the kind/goodly players have been killed off/driven away. Its still a majority of semi-peaceful players, I think.

it's how society functions even with laws. The last few decades aren't even an exception to that. you've got a village-nation here, and a village-nation here that gets along fine,but don't want to go to war with each other because it's devastating. However, you got the little guys over there that don't have big industry and another little neighbor that looks like it could be good to conquer or pirate, and you get a lot of violence.

I can guarantee (with some certainty) some passer by has noticed your camp/ claim and its not gonna be the first one.

Yeah, we find randomly killed and skinned animals around every once in awhile and my village is pretty far out of the way. People travel and explorers spot things, so just because you didn't see them doesn't mean they didn't see your home.

There was this day before finishing up my palisade, still having nothing and being nothing (and thinking I was safe) I teleported back to my HF and the moment the screen refreshed, there was this guy with bear cape, hunting bow and shit walking around my stuff. The moment I appeared, he just walked into the woods and disappeared.

I just passed by my nearest neighbor (about 20-30 minutes away) and their claim was almost completely leveled. And I'm not 100% sure but I think someone stole some of my honey from my unfenced farm claim.

I'm about 6 hours away from the starting area, and have considered moving further but the last two areas I thought looked good ended up having a village nearby one and the other had a good sized claim with two people working it (I didn't notice them at first, was reading the poetry in their runestones.) Each of those were an additional hour+ away in opposite directions.

The best defense against villages and what not is usually to talk to them. Sell them some barley seeds and get to know what's going on with their village and the level of hostility will drop almost instantly. It's harder to kill a friend than it is to kill a faceless player.

Try to kin and talk to your neighbors if possible. Even if nothing comes out of it it's better to establish those connections than not to.
