Hi bois, as a Java dev by profession I just wanted to drop in and mention that Java being pay-to-use now is only in case you're using Oracle's JDK distribution, which you absolutely do not have to be doing - simply use this to grab a compiled OpenJDK version you need and you're good to go (unless you depend on Oracle-specific additions to the JDK, in which case you've made a terrible mistake

The new launcher should preserve map progress now. Feel free to confirm/deny.

More importantly, it also only does if you insist on using an old version of Oracle's JDK and require support for it. It's still free even from Oracle as long as you don't do that.Myzreal wrote:Hi bois, as a Java dev by profession I just wanted to drop in and mention that Java being pay-to-use now is only in case you're using Oracle's JDK distribution

So to make sure I'm clear, they're doing what Microsoft is doing with Win7 support. Upgrade or pay for legacy support.loftar wrote:More importantly, it also only does if you insist on using an old version of Oracle's JDK and require support for it. This is not what I was reading off the Oracle licensing agreements for developers.
