From ancient times alchemists used distillers. Why we can't build here one for ourselvs?
EX:
Requirments: 4 bars of bronse iron or steel, 10 pices of glass, 2 ropes. Skils related-metla working, cooking.
How it works. You fill the equipment with water(any ql, it can hold up to 25 l) and fuel(coal, about 3 of them). Then, after you ignite it, 15 min(irl) must pass. And you can get 1bucket (10l) of water ql 80-100(or maybe the ql of materials used for building, with maxed ql of 100). Thus cooks will have some water to make good doughs and it takes too much time and effot to produce vast amounts of water. So natural high ql waterspots still will be needed (as it takes much time to make some) and still, even if you can't find a place-you can get some water for your (ex:cooking) needs.
PS posted it in separate thread so i can hear ideas & critique on it. Did not found anything simular. Maybe i'm blind.

Re: Distiller
Sir, actually even 10l of hi-ql water is enough for anyone to write bot which will make it all the day.
The process needs to be more hard.

Re: Distiller
Imho this would be more interesting for getting quality water to plant trees.
So limit quality of distilled fluid by taking device and input fluid quality into account (like it is with the meatgrinder), effectively softcapping the result by construction materials available.
Also a waste factor of some kind, eg. 50% of water input to be lost (while it could be 90% when distilling wine to get brandy) in the process?
This would allow for repeated distillations in case you only have access to low-q water, and would also enable processing of wine to give it more uses.
Resulting brandy could have same effects as wine, but having a shot glass (0.02L or so) and a bottle of 0.6L brandy in inventory would be more hand
Material list is a bit to steep too, I would see it more like one of the following:
stationary version: some 20 bricks (for the fireplace), 1 bar of common metal (for the framework holding the glass parts), 40 glass (for the bubbles and tubes).
liftable version: 4 blocks and 2 boards (for the table the device is mounted on), 5 bricks (fireplace), 1 bar of common metal, 40 glass.
This would tie quality of result mainly to wood, and to a lesser extend to clay and sand.
Problematic would be the interface, since fluid needs to be added and removed. So simple barrel method of right-clicking it with a bucket will most likely fail.
In case Loftar could get himself to code a new interface i would suggest using the steel crucible as a starting point, with the lower slot group holding a container (eg. bucket) filled with unprocessed fluid while the upper slot group accepts container(s) to be filled with the result. Fuel could then be added as with steel crucibles, Fuel quality could also play a role (better fuel burning more even, giving a more stable temperature).

Scarcity of high q base resources is an important part of the game's design.

Yeah. I'd like a distiller for making booze though. Maybe water, fuel and straws for alcohol you'd store in glass bottles and could later mix with blueberries, grapes, etc. to make flavoured vodka?Potjeh wrote:Scarcity of high q base resources is an important part of the game's design.

Sure. That's why you would have to trade hq wood (in form of coal) - and time (which is the scarcest of all resources) - for water quality improvement, while removing halve ofthe water you fill in from game forever.Potjeh wrote:Scarcity of high q base resources is an important part of the game's design.

Why not go the whole nine yards and transmute rocks into gold and shit like that, so we can give the market a proper burial?

The still should require copper to build, copper is more suitable for making pipes than iron or bronze, and we definitely need more unique items to be made from copper and tin.

I hear ya, now all we need is plum treesPotjeh wrote:Slivovica please.
But since we do have grapes, we could get lozovača
And I agree it's copper that should be used. My still is made of copper
