Please, SCHEDUAL server shutdowns + maintanance

Post by CQReborn »

Hi, just posting to say that I love this game, but PLEASE. If you are going to shut down the server for repairs, or even just restart it, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give a global broadcast letting the players know there is going to be work AT THE TIME YOU ARE GOING TO ROLL BACK TO.

Twice now the server has shut down, and I've lost hours of work because you guys shut it down right off the bat instead of letting people know an hour in advance about the server work. PLEASE give people warning so we don't waste an hour of work because we don't know how far back the server is going to place us when its booted back up. I was half done with my first house and had my wall set up around my territory, and now I'm back to ground zero with a half done fence, please let us know in advance. Thank you.

Yea, but these broadcasts are 5 minutes from the server shut down. What I'm saying is, if its 12:00 and they are doing maintainance at 1:00, post a broadcast at 12:00 saying "At 1:00 we are going to do server work, when it comes back up, the data will be rolled back to this time" so we dont waste an hour working.

Actually, this is a bug. Under normal circumstances, there's a full world save when the server has a controlled shutdown. Unfortunately these past couple of times were screwed. (relevant topic and relevant post said topic was talking about)

I don't believe loftar or jorb work on any particular schedule, and even if they did, the world doesn't all save at once. Different bits get saved at different intervals over the course of an hour, if memory serves, so the rollback is something they could only guess at.

As soon as loftar hammers it out things should be back to normal.
