Why are you able to track yourself?

So I traveled across the map to find out I was tracking myself...
No I did not take the scents from a container, I picked them up off the ground :?
I remember not being able to track scents of your own crimes with a message popping up "You can't track yourself"

And yes, that is the south wall.....
