Scents and Summoning

So, a friend of mine was murdered recently. This brought to my attention the idea of "justice" via the ranging skill being kind of flawed, but considering I'm new, I don't know a damn thing anyway.

So, in this scenario, my friend, minding his own business, gets randomly killed by somebody. Somebody wants justice! Okay, so, let's say I track this guy down and kill him. That means somebody could do the same to me, right? On my part, it is justice, but on the other peoples part, they are just taking revenge for the loss of their murdering companion.

Okay, so let's say I decide that I don't want to use murder to bring justice, but am just satisfied with putting the guy in his place. So, I track him down, and knock him out, maybe pee on him a little, and leave. I can still be tracked down and killed for this form of justice, as lenient as it is. That doesn't even make sense to me. Murder is one thing, but in this scenario, all I did was knock the guy out!

Last option. I decide that my friends belongings were worth getting back. In the reality of the situation, his items were all junk, so they're not worth getting back, but in this scenario it will be some really nice things! So, I track the guy's hearth, and somehow I get inside his place. I find the stolen goods, and leave with them. Again, I can be summoned for this.


In only one scenario would it be understandable, which is murder.. and even then, the guy obviously had it coming. So, why is it designed like this? Why is it the ranging system can be used not only for good, but also for bad? Or maybe my ideas using it for justice aren't the right ones.

it was never meant to progress justice. scents are meant to enable people to create their own justice. be it revenge or for shit 'n giggles.

if i am able to kill you because you left a scent i have the right to do it nomatter what the story behind it is. it's not hard to understand.

so the system works fine.

Justice is subjective. You can easily shit on someone elses day, property, and friends without committing murder, let alone a criminal act. Lets say I break your boat in the middle of a lake and you drown. I have left no scents and am not a murderer. You killing me would be the start of the chain of murders.

Or lets say I alt spammed and had them trash your quality and steal everything you own. Is my main entirely safe from justice then?

its very rare to find anyone in this game who doesnt at some point crap all over someone else.

people will randomly attack you, kill you, steal ur crap, destroy your stuff just for the hell of it.

what u need to do is learn to make friends with those around you, and those u know are stronger than you and then when u have the lp buy the neessary skills and up your stats to ensure u can fight back.

it is NOT pointless. it can let you to fight for "the justice" you believe in on your own or with your own group.
the thing is, your justice cant be everyone's justice, as TechX called "subjective" above, same as the real world.
people tend to forget that killing or taking things back are not always the only way to pay back the price as well.
it creates interesting dramas, conflicts, friendship and everything we may be able to enjoy with.
