Having a village claim underground...

So, I asked in chat a bit earlier what they thought of a village claim underground. Some thought it was dumb, some thought it was awesome.

It seems to have disadvantages, as if someone dropped a village claim outside the cave...then I would be screwed. Though, the cavern system I'm in, has quite a few exits and entrances, and I haven't explored all of it yet, either. But, it would be pretty cool to have a village underground.

Then again, maybe it makes more sense to make a village on top, and just make a few alts to claim the areas in the caverns...

What are your guys's thoughts?

I guess you could But in my opinion tree farming, crop farming and tending to cattle takes up 90% of all choirs, and simply isn't really practical to have a whole village underground.
Does this mean you shouldn't have a village claim underground? Hell no I love my cave base and its real handy to store stuff in mass, As you can just line up a shitload of cupboards without worry of decay.

Also I wouldn't suggest building said village in a cave system, It simply draws too much attention and like you said you'll have to protect the entrance, Which isn't hard I guess, but it's more work...

If I were you I would drop a mine hole where you knew there wasn't any cave systems in the area, Then mine out as much space as you need and then start build Of course you'd need to seal off the mine hole entrances in and out to prevent people taking a nosy. Over all it is a lot of work, but the benefit of having all the space and being organized is well worth the effort.

I know this is an old post, but I like the idea. My only concern would be security.

What would prevent raiders from dropping mine shaft over your village? This would give them access, no?
