What to do when getting ganked?

There have been some thugs terrorizing the local area (not just me and my friends settlements, but local settlements I see a lot of dead player bodies by their camps). Some people have moved into our palisade because of this.

Anyways, what should I do when I'm being beat up by raiders? We don't think they have the murder skill but they've already killed 3 of us, almost 4 by continuously knocking us out. Someone said this is a bug and they shouldn't be able to kill us without murder, the raiders said 'working as intended, check the forums.' Is it a bug or no? Will I be safe by logging out and trying to log into my hearth?

First off: whoever told you that it was a bug was flat out WRONG. You can kill someone just by knocking them out over and over again. You do a little HHP damage each time (or a lot if you're doing it right). Murder is murder is murder unless you do it with leeches, then it's just battery and theft. (Just as summonable, but a shorter statute of limitations.)

What do you do? What your already doing. Organize. Be prepared by learning how to fight yourself. You guys can become an impressive village if you want. Specialize your characters into farming, crafting, foraging, hunting, etc. and everyone work on making a warrior alt. Why an alt? Warriors get killed. The only question is how quickly. There's tons more advice on how to organize a village, so read up on the forums about people who have done it right and those that have done it wrong.

As BooBoo says, accept your fate. Good PvP games don't allow for an escape from death by a disconnect, though most will terminate a connection on a d/c if you haven't been in combat recently. (I know a couple that make the avatar wait in world for up to 15 minutes after being in PvP combat.)

There isn't so much a guide to running villages or PvP combat (beyond Dataslycer's guide stickied in this forum and an explanation of the combat moves). Lurk more than "How Do I?". Keep your eye on In Congress Assembled, Dwarves & Thieves, and Inn of Brodgar, too.

As far as making combat alts: Three stats are your best friends (in no particular order): Constitution, Agility, and Strength. Charisma is also useful as there are a few things a party leader can do that compares the leader and target's charisma scores. Focus primarily on Unarmed or Melee Combat styles, though some people have pulled off doing both. Some Marksmanship can be good, too, as you never know when you'll have to snipe someone at range with a bow. You'll need Rage and probably Murder to off you're sworn enemies and likely need Trespassing and Vandalism, too. Of course, I say if you're going to kill your enemy, you might as well take his (useful) posessions, too, so you might want Theft. While your combat character doesn't need ranging, someone with good Perception and Exploration should have it.

Go to tools, check everything in the hide option

If you want to learn a bit of basic melee combat (as ranged has a tendency to not flow well in 1v1) , take the bottom part of this thread a gander.

LOL. That's good for animals, but you have to know how to use ALL of the various moves, maneuvers, and attacks to win at PvP. (Well, maybe not all, but you need to know more than the guy you're attacking/is attacking you.)
