I'd be interested in some new weaponry down the line. Daggers are very interesting to me.
Say, when wearing a dagger your stab ability is cut by a percentage but your skill use is shortenned by a formula somewhere along the lines of, dex/agi and your dagger q. This allows for faster skills with a cut to power, the way a dagger should be.
Edit: Added the idea for wooden or stone swords. Possibly the same damage if not 20ish or so higher than the stone axe so that new players have access to things like sting for hunting purposes. As Bmj said it could be a stepping stone between stone axes and swords

Re: Daggers
Maybe have daggers as an inbetween stone axes and swords for weapons. A small penetration damage so you can use it without having stupid amounts of strength and being full martial, and so melee combat doesn't just have to be a later on in the game thing.

I agree it does seem sort of crappy that you need to have to wait around to use your swords effectively, but with your idea in mind I'm adding to my OP 1 secbmjclark wrote:Maybe have daggers as an inbetween stone axes and swords for weapons. Re: Daggers/Wooden Swords
instead if a wooden sword, why not spears?
a few branches for the handle and a stone or bone for the tip? could also have metal spears later in game, but they make more sense to be used in a game like this than any other type of weapon.
spears were far more commonly used than swords, from the time the first caveman sharpenned the end of a stick, right on through the steel age when wars were fought with halberds, pikes, and partisans. spears were the primary weapons of any army(lance from horseback is still a spear) and were really only replaced by rifles(but bayonet on a rifle is still a spear so technically they're still used).

That's a different topic but I suppose it also fits to the general idea. The main point was for another *sword* type weapon for new characters that would be able to stingImAwesome wrote:instead if a wooden sword, why not spears?

Re: Daggers/Wooden Swords
My main point was more to give another option for melee combat that actually does some damage when stinging in pvp. Ideally with a minor amount of penetration that's not completely useless like stone axes are, but that's probably something for another thread

thats pretty much what I went on when I said spears...in a survival type situation you pretty much use what you have, and as this is a survival game I figured it was sort of what you were going for in new weapons.bmjclark wrote:My main point was more to give another option for melee combat that actually does some damage when stinging in pvp. sorry if it wasn't quite what you wanted this thread, though your reference to a 'wooden sword' just sounds like a pointed stick to me, which is just a very simple spear

Re: Daggers/Wooden Swords
A wooden sword is a bundle of lathes tied together to resemble the shape and weight of a real sword without . They aren't anything like spears. They're simply practice weapons. (Don't mean you can't kill someone with one if you know--or don't know--what you're doing.)

Re: Daggers/Wooden Swords
Again, the wooden sword would be a *starter* weapon. I'm not ruling out spears by any means.
It's just that a wooden sword would have access to val strike and sting. Axes are intended as tools for the most part and why not let the nabs get used to swinging a sword around while hunting until they can get one made of metal? It would let them get some practice in beforehand with a less valuable item before they try to defend themselves with no idea what they're doing.

Re: Daggers/Wooden Swords
Since W4 and being able to mine in caves, metal isn't that hard to come by, making a Milita sword is almost as easy as chopping down a tree. Maybe instead of taking wrought, it could use cast iron to make it even more easily obtainable?jordancoles wrote:Again, the wooden sword would be a *starter* weapon. As for getting used to a sword, an axe is almost the same, only taking higher amounts of IP before mounting an attack and with an axe you still have access to Valorus strike to reset the advantage.
I had a retardedly huge signature and have gotten this embarrassing replacement to show for it.
