Loose collection of ideas around making hunting more realistic
Only Boars and Bears attack, and then only sometimes (obviously new critters coming may attack all the time)
Deers, foxes, rabits, chickens, cows, sheep, all shy away from people, and in some cases flat out bolt.
Use stealth skill for humans creeping up on animals without making them bolt. Archery is still going to be your best bet for dropping a stag though, maybe make distance from animal one of the stealth variables
Use debuffs on animals to slow them down, maybe some special attacks that cause these debuffs.
Allow players to periodically attempt to track animals they they are aggro'd with. Animals can run faster, but slow down eventually, and players can have another chance to sneak up on their prey.

Re: Hunting
Yeah, that'd make hunting alot more
entertaining than the
"35.....4....38....4....36 RUN FOX RUN"
Animals with stamina and long term
hunts with meat healing a little and
filling you up more as a greater reward
than skinning and butchering then
dropping everything and finding
another animal to do the same thing
to. Higher level animals are better at
hiding maybe?

Re: Hunting
I support this idea. Realistic hunts are so fun. Crawl through the tall grass, sneaking up on a large stag. Then THROW THE SPEARS! The stag runs, most of the men take flight whilst the rest go around to cut it off.
Hehe, strategic hunts. Of course, LP gain from all animals would have to be boosted for this to not be a TERRRRRIBLE nerf.
And perhaps you could wear the animal hides to raise your stealth against certain animals?
Hehehe, I like this idea.

Re: Hunting
I would love improved hunting, simply for the last two hours dragging a cart I have been jumped by:
3 IV Boars 4 V boars 5 VI boars, assload of X boars, some odd X foxes, and Two X Bears. Not complaining but I just went from 5k LP to roughly 80k.

Re: Hunting
OH! I've been playing the game wrong all this time... I'm not supposed to build things! I'm supposed to kill animals!
Huh! No wonder I've been stuck at 100,000 LP for three months! No wonder I have only 20 in each stat and haven't leveled any of them up in a month!
Now I just need to make the exact same character as everyone else and play that exact same game.
I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with the suggestion, just the game itself. Now, back to the matter at hand:
On the realism side, human beings are the best endurance traveling creatures on the planet; beyond thinking ahead and carrying water and food, we are simply better able to travel long distance.
The main form of hunting for humans is to simply walk after antelopes until they collapse from exhaustion, then drop a rock on them. From the perspective of pretty much all other animals, humans are the terminator.
Only dogs are really on par with humans in general environments, which may be why they where tamed.

Surprise.

Jorb, we need drop rocks and the ability to drop them!Peter wrote:The main form of hunting for humans is to simply walk after antelopes until they collapse from exhaustion, then drop a rock on them.
EDIT: seriously though, citation please? Your ideas intrigue me and I would like to subscribe to your magazine and/or newsletter

This is my main gripe with the game now, as it stands. Boats would be great, but they aren't a fundamental mechanic. This stuff, however, deeply affects a persons play style. It's exactly like you say, the best players are all the best for the same reason, they can take down the beasties for the max LP. I _love_ the Q system, but combined with the LP system, it sucks... big time.Yolan wrote:Actually, I would like to see the LP system fixed. We now have super players who can earn so much LP, they have 100+ in most if not all skills. This should never be the case. Skills need to be improved by doing them, or at least, doing something related. At the moment, its all about the hunter/fighter, and how many bears you can kill. I would rather see such people become damn good at fighting, and maybe butchering (as they would do a lot of that), but little else. No reason why they should be good at sewing, or smithing, or carp, if they have never sewed before, or smithed, or carped.
