-get rid of walls
-make houses lockable
-make player controlled animals invulnurable
The reason walls are such a problem, is you can't deal with thieves, they simply make a vault, and they are invincible. Plus, thieving, vandalizing shouldn't only be to destroy noob settlements that don't have walls. People should have to think twice before turning on criminal acts, because they'll have real consequences for it, instead of hiding behind a vault. I stopped playing because there's no reason to leave my walls ever, and that got boring.
Make animals unkillable/unstealable - the logic for this is, since everyone and their grandma has a brickwall, the animals inside walls are unkillable, and with walls removed, it would be silly to make cows thievable/killable by other players. How would you ever increase quality, they'd be killed in an instant by other players.
I doubt jorb/loftar would ever read a post in critique and ideas, but if someone else does, and happens to talk to jorbtar, tell them this idea, because walls ruin the game.

Get rid of walls, that would fix the game.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

I read these from time to time.

So, when you come out your house you should just pray that noone's camping your door? Or do should you now definitely log into an alt first to make sure the coast is clear... or should you never come out your house?
When tracking down a thief should you now indefinitely camp his door and pray that someday he comes out, or?
There is a very definite problem that everything anyone can do protect themselves can be used by criminals to make them harder to catch/revenge/whatever, everyone knows that, but this simply transfers the problem, it fixes nothing.

As Sarge mentioned without walls everyone will just camp near you house till you get out.
I guess that might be solved to some extent by introducing an evil-saint metric.
When you do crime act your evil level goes up which in turn inhibits gain on some other stats. E.g. FEP gain and/or learning rate or strength will be reduced by the percentage of evilness or something like that. That might give a slight advantage to peaceful player against campers.

the game system does not and should not judge your action evil or not.romovs wrote:When you do crime act your evil level goes up

I agree. Maybe that's not the best way to go about it, but the issue of raiders reducing the player-base needs to be dealt with.
Game with permadeath and without any stabilization between peaceful and crime ways (right now it's skewed into crime direction) will stay at the same low player base forever.

i never find that an issue. the issue we all see is the current system not giving any decent ways to bring justice to the criminals.romovs wrote:the issue of raiders reducing the player-base needs to be dealt with.

Re: Get rid of walls, that would fix the game.
If you think removing walls would be a proper solution you are greatly misguided. It would only increase theft and murder. And probably more so on the new players. It only take one high level thief to come wreck your place steal from you and quietly retreat down to a locked home on a lvl 5 mine with each layer blocked. A new player will not have the resources to retaliate especially since he was just robbed blind.
As for the higher end players I really doubt they would appreciate all their quality raising efforts ruined simply because anyone can wander in and steal.
As for unkillable animals its just as flawed. So instead of killing they troll you and escort them all over the map. Maybe they leave them in odd places so they begin to starve and ruin the meat and milk quality.
The mindset of greifers, raiders, and thieves will not be changed by your solutions. Only when there is a proper system of punishment will they be detered.

If "qft" means "quit fucking trolling" (sorry I'm guessing here, I'm not one to care to keep up with interwebs acronyms), then... care to elaborate? What is there that a criminal can't build that a non-criminal can? And if your intention is to contest me at verbatim, then please think twice before you roll out a scents argument.jorb wrote:qftSarge wrote:There is a very definite problem that everything anyone can do protect themselves can be used by criminals to make them harder to catch/revenge/whatever
The nature of this forum is that I would have had my ass handed to me by now if anyone else here had any inclination of wtf (hey, look at me!
Or did I completely miss what you're saying in those 3 letters? Not impossible at all
