How do I lower my Hunger Level?

I've been diggin and drinking and running around for a long time, yet for about an hour my hunger level has been at 100%. I have not eaten anything.

get a bucket, fill it with water, chop tree, drink water, chop tree, drink water. Should only take about 10 minutes to get to 50% hunger.

When I drink water from the cup it does not lower it, does it from drinking from bucket?
