I've been think about this alot wondering what other peoples opinions are. Essentially I think 0 character development inheritance is problematic, primarily because of the new game time system.
Person who plays on 1 character:
- uses more limited game time
- starts from 0 when dies
Person who plays 2+ characters on different accounts:
+ uses less limited game time
+ alot less character dev lost on death
Obviously we cannot stop alting completely, but I feel there needs to be SOME sort of perk to playing wholly on one character. Even just the lowest amount of inheritance from legacy haven of 25% could be enough to at least tip the scales slightly.
Right now I have thousands of exp on both my characters, so don't think EXP matters unless you are trying to level a dozen alts that do nothing but log in and grab curios. but pherhaps EXP could be used as currency in some sort of new inheritance system.

Re: Lack of Inheritance, Alting and game time
I think the perk of playing one character is that more time is invested in that character and it can achieve more before death.

But most of character progression is via offline waiting for hunger timer and curio timers, so there is no real reason to playing 100% on one character unless you have almost no free time to play in first place.

Honestly I think it would be nice if even claims gave back some or all of the LP you have put in to them. As it is currently I believe when you declaim you get NONE of the LP back which is really, really lame. I spent my week off of work grinding a character only to have him die just yesterday, I feel pretty bad about it and I feel all that time I spent was truly wasted especially because of how slow the LP gain is in the first place.banok wrote:Obviously we cannot stop alting completely, but I feel there needs to be SOME sort of perk to playing wholly on one character. The nice thing is you have the choice of your gameplay type :
most easy : village of freinds
medium : alts
hard : 1 toon solo.
Yes, the third choice is the tougher, but nobody force you to play that mod, and its nice that it can stil be available for those who like challenge.

Yeah, I am not saying it is going to be changed or that it needs to be, I've already started up again. Just that it wasn't so terrible when the game was free.alioli wrote: welcome to permadeath.

@simimi I'm not playing solo but don't really see how that effects the topic. There is no reason for anyone in our village not to split their play time across 2 characters at least. those 2 characters would not be lower level, the biggest limiting factor in character development is offline time, not resources.

Re: Lack of Inheritance, Alting and game time
Players with enough time and energy to effectively play multiple characters will always have an advantage over players who do not. There are always tasks that need to be done that consume lots of play time but they don't often contribute to the bulk of your stat/lp growth. That said, anyone who argues that mining for metal, setting up a brickwall, or performing other domestic tasks aren't useful uses of your time is an idiot. So if you can and want to play tons, do it. You will be stronger for it even if your interest wanes and you don't keep up on multiple characters for more than to feed them curios every once in awhile, since they can act as replacement characters if your main dies. That said, if you don't have the time or energy to play fully on multiple characters, your experience points are going to very quickly become a limiting factor. Experience Points are difficult to acquire in a reliable and consistent manner. That is ultimately the limiting factor and the reward for playing full time on a main.
Claims not refunding lp is pretty nice and I appreciate it. I like that the temptation isn't there to blow up my land so that I can buy up survival again after death. Given the way that the Bond of Blood and Soil works, any claim refunding would be highly abusable as you can transfer claim ownership now. It also discourages buying up tons of land for the sake of banking lp, which is still something to consider, even if someone does have alts.

Under the current system hyper active mains get to burn a crap ton of mirkwoods for bonus LP. I'm not sure how endgame will look, but at least in early game and mid game this seems to be true.TeckXKnight wrote:You will be stronger for it even if your interest wanes and you don't keep up on multiple characters for more than to feed them curios every once in awhile, since they can act as replacement characters if your main dies.
