How do i build a house that doesn't need pavement (rocks)?

Also, When you log off does your hunger still go down(if you are in bed or not)?

Wouldn't it be better if you plowed the land and then lay stone on it, intead of looking for seeds to plant grass. I mean rocks are everywhere :)
