So you can graft branches of tree to other trees. What for? Who knows. Let us!

Re: Tree grafting.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
The pseudo-scientific ideas of Lysenkoism built on Lamarckian concepts of the heritability of acquired characteristics. Lysenko's theory rejected Mendelian inheritance and the concept of the "gene"; it departed from Darwinian evolutionary theory by rejecting natural selection. Proponents falsely claimed to have discovered, among many other things, that rye could transform into wheat and wheat into barley, that weeds could spontaneously transmute into food grains, and that "natural cooperation" was observed in nature as opposed to "natural selection". Lysenkoism promised extraordinary advances in breeding and in agriculture that never came about.

Re: Tree grafting.
Lysenkoism indeed was ridiculous pseudoscience that resulted in starvation because Stalin was convinced that it's how things worked.
Tree grafting however is valid science. In real life you can plant apple trees that grow fast but produce low quality fruit and then graft branches from high quality trees into them. The branches will then produce high quality fruit.
Similar factoid is that you can combine underground parts of potato plant and overground parts of tomato plant (they are closely related species) and have plant that produces both tomatoes and potatoes.

Re: Tree grafting.
grafting != lysenkoism
You must learn agricultures
The new tree for example apple, grown from seed, will give first fruits in 10-15 years. Grafted branch have same age and genetics as it's parent tree, but root will be another organism with another DNA. So it will produce fruits as fast as it can (1-3 years).
Apricot for example, cant give it's DNA with seed. It will be just wild apricot, and making a normal tree requires grafting or budding. So every tree you buy for planting is grafted.
I dont know how to use it in hafen game, but if we speaking about lysenkoism, no man, you're wrong.

Re: Tree grafting.
And why are you so serious, Comrade? In Poland we were told that in the Soviet Union were growing pears on willow - hence the association with Lysenko and Miczurin

Maybe, if anyone can think of a purpose for it.

How do you imagine that working?

Re: Tree grafting.
New tree q = (stock q + scion q + wax q) / 3. Stock q same as current quality (seed + water + dirt + pot + table). Ungrafted trees don't produce seeds (so you can make limited quantities of higher q lumber without getting an increase in overall tree quality.

Re: Tree grafting.
stock trees should still bear seeds and fruit. i dont think using grafting to raise tree quality should be a thing its just an end around solution to the bone clay issue.Potjeh wrote:New tree q = (stock q + scion q + wax q) / 3. if anything grafted trees should bear more fruit and the quality bonus should be applied to only the fruit/seed.
as for how it would work it probably wont given he current state of trees and them reliably bearing fruit due to the decay mechanic. its so annoying to have to chop down your apple grove to get more apples.
