Today I encountered an unexpected behavior of the construction process. I tried to build a minehole. When I already had all the required materials in the construction sign and at the next moment the minehole should have emerged, the System said that "You cannot build on that type of terrain". The thing is that I tried to build it on unpaved ground and the game allowed me to place the construction sign on it. Usually the game doesn't allow to place a construction sign if the ground type isn't suitable. Since I was able to place it, I thought that it is OK to build here and delivered required resources. Now I'm starting to think that I've wasted 10 hardened leather and 15 ropes which took me almost 2 weeks to collect.
I use Amber Client.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or intended feature but maybe someone can clarify that.

Re: Minehole Construction Bug (or feature)
Client shouldn't matter, but you should verify bugs with the game in the default client before posting in Bugs. However, without a screenshot or better description of where you're trying to build, it makes troubleshooting the exact problem impossible.
Only thing I can think of is the ground changed somehow from the time you placed the sign to the time you finished building (decay mechanics). If this is the case, you're stuck. Take out the construction, pave the ground, and restart. Odds are this isn't the problem unless you had to do something (like plow, stomp to dirt) to place the construction down to begin with.
Only other thought on this would be that someone tunneled under the position and there's something underneath the minehole blocking you finishing it. If it had been there to begin with, you'd have not been able to place the minehole. But, if memory serves, you get a different error message with this. If it does happen to be this problem, give it some time or go check things out underground. If it's a moveable object, someone might move it (or you can find and move it). If it's a building, you'll need to go down there and remove it. You should be able to finish constructing then.

Here is the picture with the problem: http://i.imgur.com/VowHPtB.png
I try to build the minehole on leveled but not paved ground. The game allowed me to place the construction site but it doesn't allow me finish the construction.

Re: Minehole Construction Bug (or feature)
Ok, so looks like you plowed the land. It could be that the tiles covered by the construction areamay not all be plowed and that you might be able to finish it if you can plow those tiles on the bottom of the image that look like they're dirt. If you can squeeze a plow on there, as long as it goes over any part of the tile, it'll flag as plowed.
IIRC, you can't build on only plowed land if the original land doesn't allow you to build on it. Maybe this is a bug with the minehole placement, maybe my knowledge is wrong. I don't recall being able to build the palisade around my forest retreat by just plowing the land up, though.

Plowing didn't help but I may have an idea. Maybe there is water directly below? Thats why it says that the terrain is wrong. Unfortunately, there is no cave entrance nearby so I can't check what is going on there.

Re: Minehole Construction Bug (or feature)
If there is something below that blocks building it, it gives the error when you first attempt to place the minehole IIRC.
At this point, I'm not sure what else to suggest, and we may need to wait on a comment from someone else that runs into this more often than I have. Or a dev... whichever is first.

Re: Minehole Construction Bug (or feature)
Mine holes shouldn't be buildable on plowed ground, but that should indeed be checked before you placed it. Could it be that the plowed ground decayed in under the minehole while it was being built? Sounds quite a bit extreme, but it's the only thing I can think of.

When I started building it the ground was just dirt. I plowed the area after I encountered the problem. But maybe the problem occured because the dirt decayed into forest. And when I plowed the area I ruined it completely because now I can't even stomp it to dirt due to tile centers being blocked by the construction. I guess, I will have to build another minehole now.

Re: Minehole Construction Bug (or feature)
I know it's a lot of rope and wax. Not much to be done about the rope other than a LOT of hemp or flax or a LOT of foraging runs for nettles and taproots, though you can shred up dried hides into hide straps (see recipe in crafting menu) to help with supplying string if you hunt a lot to help with this. (Suggest using trash skins you don't want for good leather.)
For the wax, build as many hives as you can. 20 hives should get you the wax in a week, but that's a lot of straw if you don't have it stockpiled. There is some passive production on them, and you only need q10 for the hardened leather to build the minehole. IIRC, you'll need to do a few plants near them to get them started producing, so might want to spread them around your claim some.

Harsh. Will try to look at it.
