Connection timed out?

Post by kitty629 »

Anyone know why my connection would be timing out? This is the launch file and exception I get. Ooops I pasted the same file twice, here is the exception.

There is in actual fact no exception in there.

Thanks for adding in the exception and stack trace. Before we can help any, we need to know what operating system and Java version are installed. We may also need to know some network configuration details such as if a proxy is being used and how connections are done or any security software installed that may interfere with the connections.

An easy solution to the problem can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=59646#p762432

If that doesn't work, please follow up and we'll do our best to help you out.

Connection timing out seems more like internet issues than haven issues, especially as the stack trace has no exceptions. Would look into your internet or firewall possibly.

Agreed, especially given how it is Java itself, rather than even the actual Haven client, that is having network troubles.

If anything, you may want to check whether the Java settings have a proxy server configured, in which case you should most likely set it to use no proxy. I've seen some people inexplicably having proxy settings enabled in Java, and it could conceivably cause such problems. The presence of SocksSocketImpl in the stack trace also indicates that it could be that.

Oh, and by the way, when you edit to post to include new information like that, you may want to post a reply saying that. I wouldn't have noticed the edit if MagicManICT hadn't posted about it.

Should you be able to catch that exception: what about adding some diagnostic information (nslookup, tracepath, ...) to the error message?

Yeah, that's why I posted. ;)

It seems to be a common enough error that few people seem to follow up on. It's definitely local to the system or ISP problem, but anything we (you?) can do to make it easier to fix, or at least notice without crashing, would be good.

Since this is in the JNLP client before the Haven client is even running, there isn't a whole lot I can do about it.
