3rd Party Clients?
What's up with all these clients people keep referencing? Like amber client?

Makes it better to play than default client which missed a lot of QoL or functions. Amber client or Ender client are two most popular clients. Check out wizard subforum.

I got the Amber Client, my friend mentioned a way to select certain trees to appear on her mini map. how do i do that?

Options --> Map Settings I believe, you tick the trees you want to show up as (triangles?) on the minimap.
