I know I'm not the only one that thinks the current FEP system is incredibly boring and stressful. It's made clear that you need to balance your FEPs as much as possible or risk having some nigh impossible grind later in the game if a game mechanic is added relating to a stat you don't have. Nobody can eat what they want because if they eat too much of the wrong thing they are permanently defbuffing their character. Shouldn't eating be fun and worry free? Instead of "Damn I can't eat this sausage because I have too much STR already, I need to go grind some cheese even though I don't really want to or will enjoy it." wouldn't it be better if it was "I'm going to eat this sausage because I already have it, am hungry, and want to eat this sausage."
The FEP bar being based around your highest stat really ruins eating in this game in my opinion. Almost EVERYONE is worried about not having enough PSY or DEX or whatnot. We have enough to worry about like permadeath and villages to have to be worrying about our FEP balance. Those that don't worry about it and raise only the useful stats instead worry about content patches making their unraised stats needed, thus rendering their character useless. Make the FEP bar max a constant or an average of all your stats.
If there are already plans for a FEP revamp then ignore this. If there isn't then please, consider making food more fun and less of a grind.

Re: Revamp the FEP system
Other stats should be involved in some way, but I don't see a huge issue in it.
As for the mixed FEPs, sure some will want to balance, but realistically if you're in a well managed village this shouldn't be a problem.
Not everyone needs dex, not everyone needs psy. This is only a big problem if you live alone or with terrible people.

I live in a well managed village and I find getting the food and quantities that I need a problem.DatOneGuy wrote:...

I still like the FEP sytem though, it is pretty unique and it works.

Noone even said to remove FEPs, though. L2 read, n00b. :)jorb wrote:Remove FEPs? lolno.
That being said, though, I would be hard pressed to see a problem with the FEP system as it is. I think it is fun precisely because you have to choose your foods carefully and plan ahead. That's what makes it a game, isn't it?
If there is anything that can be said to the disfavor of the current FEP system, it would rather be along the lines that it's too easy to master. It can also be argued that it has a weakness in that it doesn't encourage specialization, but I'm not sure that really is a weakness anymore; the FEP system discourages specialization while the division of labor otherwise encourages it, creating opposed forces, and that's probably just good.

Re: Revamp the FEP system
I don't disagree that the FEP is unique and interesting, I just feel that it forces my play style to go in directions that I don't really want it to. I don't think I'm alone when I say I want to keep my stats as even as possible to prevent my stat gap becoming a huge crutch later on in the game. But the FEP system pretty much decides what I'm going to do one day or the next. It tells me I need to go hunting for boars or bears even if I don't want to and I don't have too much of a choice. It tells me I need to farm some more or I need to go explore a cave. I feel like so much of my time is sucked into these chores that I don't feel like doing at all, but I just have to or risk handicapping my character.
I like spending my time enhancing my character and my settlements the way I choose. If I want to continue building a palisade or a pathway I should be able to eat some of my mass stored food and not be forced to put my project on hold just to go get a FEP food I'm short on. Am I the only one that hates looking for cavebulbs when I'm smack dab in the middle of a fun project?
I really hate when a game tells me what I need to do. Keeping my hunger up to prevent my character from starving is fun and adds depth, but having to perfectly balance my diet and consistently collect harder to obtain FEP foods is a pain, one the game would be a lot more fun without, in my opinion.
And for solo players? Forget about it.
