Ukraine is currently a western puppet state. Don't delude yourselves into believing otherwise. Hence the drama unfolding.

Russia will take Ukraine but they will struggle to hold it. Like I said at the beginning, this seems a path for Ukraine to achieve a state of greater independence. Now that they recognise NATO for what it is. Nobody is truly independent anymore.

Refreshing to see someone else join the conversation who is capable of independent thought. Interesting take on things.

I wish I had the motivation to do more detailed posts on a smartphone.

Everyone's a puppet state. The US is a Chinese puppet in disguise. Conversely, China is a puppet of the US and "Western world" economy. Russia is a puppet of the oligarchs. NATO dances to Yankee Doodle Dandy. I could keep going, but I think everyone gets my point. Every nation in the world has trade partners and allies they defer to in order to get assistance if things go bad.

You should probably really stop thinking that.

In the grand course of this conversation this comment reads like a desperate attempt to save face and make smalltalk by saying nothing at all.
Nobody is going to forget what happened a few days ago, ever. It's still talked about every day, archives were saved, people are still reeling from it all.

I agree with MagicMan, in global world with complicated economics and politics relations (usually mixed together) it quite dumb to try to apply primitive patterns and try to figure which country is pimp, and which is it's bitch.

Would like to see how China will stand without western markets, Russia without energy resources customers, or west world without both previous. Everyone is everyone's puppet indeed.

It's the other way around, Russia is taking preparations as it fears getting its internet access cut off (and a memo about that led to speculation they would be cutting off internet access themselves). As per Mvgulik's link:
BBC wrote:The Ukrainian government has singled out individual tech firms to ask them to ban services in Russia, and the list of tech firms refusing to do business or sell products there is growing by the day.

Now Ukraine's tech-savvy leaders are calling for something bigger - for Russia to be completely unplugged from the global internet.

The calls were answered with an emphatic "No" from ICANN [...]

[...]

Russia itself has been experimenting with a sovereign internet - dubbed Runet - for several years, albeit one that has been retro-fitted to the existing internet rather than China's built-from-the-ground-up version.

[...]

Now it appears Russia is re-testing those systems - in a memo from the Russian government, ISPs were asked to beef up their security and connect to domain name system (DNS) servers in Russia.

Some thought the memo, and the date for completion of the test on 11 March, meant Russia intended to cut itself off imminently.

Prof Woodward sees it more as another test of preparedness: "This was more about Russia calling on ISPs to get ready, to make local copies of the DNS - the phone book of the internet - and to have local versions of third-party software that comes from servers outside Russia, such as Javascript."

Russia has since denied it will cut itself off, saying the test was about protecting Russian websites from foreign cyber-attacks.

But James Griffiths, author of The Great Firewall of China, thinks the plug could be pulled at any time: "Cutting off the internet, making sure Russians are only consuming the content that the Kremlin approves of, that kind of thing makes sense strategically, so you can see the path we're headed down," he told the BBC.

"I wouldn't be surprised if that came into force in the coming weeks or months."

One more thing: It's "The Ukraine" (as in the Borderlands"), not "Ukraine". The "the" was taken out recently to make it seem like The Ukraine was really an independent state.
