Raiders literally attack and loot anyone they see. It doesn't matter at all what boat you're in. Dugout, rowboat, snekkja. KoS everything not in a friendly realm zone.

This will have zero impact on raiding. Your clothes and tears are probably worth more to them anyway.

That may be true, but if someone isn't a raider and they see something shiny while travelling, they're more likely to become a raider, too! A raider is just someone who's currently performing a raid, not necessarily someone who never does anything else. Though, yeah, in an environment where total war, scorched earth policies are being used, there's not going to be any commerce or supply chains to raid in the first place.

There have been raiders going out specifically to hat-or-die people (and without the possibility of hat rewards they'd consider raiding not worth it). Given that chest-or-die has a 100% success rate (you can't stop the chest from being taken if overwhelmed in combat, so it's more like chest-and-die) people will definitely raid more actively if sketched chests become common enough among travelers.

You're trying to compare an ingame item that doesn't transfer between worlds to one that does and appreciates in value over time.

That's not even a slightly fair comparison for your point.

Even if it's not really rational, I'd honestly be more okay with this if it changed the upgraded container visually so you could recognize which ones were Bigger

If someone wants to pay the price of a mcdonalds cheeseburger to get some extra inventory space on a container good for them lol, imagine crying about that
