Re: Game Development: Haven & Hearth on Steam
Really wish that we didn't have to log into steam to connect to these servers. They really shouldn't be separate from non steam users. Also, the thought of playing this game without multiboxing at all (assuming we won't be able to because of steam) is a fucking tough pill to swallow

unironically, thisMightySheep wrote:I dont get wat part of this im supposed to be hyped about tbh
essentially theres nothing new but we have to pay for shit we already paid for, the world is gonna be 3 months and custom clients probably wont work
Ive seen a few games do steam release and the player count hype is usually underwhelming, so were trading all these negatives just for a potential positive of a world with more players but its not even guaranteed cuz playerbase is split and idk if casual pve players are even into a 3 month wipe
this stream started with "steam" which was hype and then every word that followed kinda killed the hype
a simple question: whats the benefit for your player base except a considerably worse experience than they were already having?

Re: Game Development: Haven & Hearth on Steam
After thinking it through for a bit, the main thing that seems like a new and arduous challenge will be playing with no alts and no shared accounts.
Will I buy another verification and sub to play a new world on steam? Probably because I'm a fucking idiot.
Will my villagemates? Probably. Also fucking idiots. <3
However, with no account sharing and no multiboxxing, the strategy for most organized villages will be harshly affected. Everybody relies on this, even hermits.
I think the easiest solution is just releasing w16 to non-steam players alongside the steam new world. Let us experience the new content and the new world as well, and play the way we are used to playing with our existing subs and purchases.

Honestly, a lot of the negatives people bring up sound like positives to me. Initially anyway.Zentetsuken wrote: I think the easiest solution is just releasing w16 to non-steam players alongside the steam new world. With that being said, I too think that maybe it would be wiser to just fucking release world 16 as is to quell any dissatisfaction.
The downside to this is it immediately splits the playerbase right from the get go and you won't get a broader picture as to how the new changes go down. (People will say they're not gonna join the Steam release but if world 15 doesn't get reset I bet they'll buckle and will join in, no way are they missing the first release on Steam regardless of what they say)
I have never played a world without multiboxing multiple accounts, but I'm open to trying it here. I can see it having a more positive outcome than what is being said. Could be shit though, who fucking knows until we try.
And that's yet another positive of having shorter 6 month long cycle worlds, you can try these things and not feel trapped in some world by some garbage change. Shorter worlds allow you to go through with some of the more radical changes without fear of having them stick around for the long term. Try something for a world, if it's shit scrap it, if not keep it. It's less of a commitment.
Honestly, I don't give a shit how this part is handled so long as the Steam release goes ahead as intended because I'm intrigued by it.
Maybe announce a date for World 16, be it the same day as the steam release or later and then let people know that World 16 will be a longer server that will get less wipes than the Steam version. Basically, the more persistent world of the two.
And just for clarity, it's not lost on me how fiddly this shit is gonna be juggling two servers, I wasn't anticipating something like this happening, but if you could satisfy everybody by just giving people the world 16 reset too then 'maybe' it's worth considering. Have that be the more persistent world AFTER it gets reset. People are done with World 15 either way.

Re: Game Development: Haven & Hearth on Steam
Thank you everyone who tuned into tonight's stream!
Two topics seemed more controversial than others, so I figured we would leave some sort of statement before going to sleep on it:
World duration
----------------------
The primary takeaway from our perspective is that we would like to be more aggressive with resets or "seasons" on the Steam variant of the game. Not necessarily wed to any particular timeframe. People seemed generally positive about 6 month sessions, and we're willing to entertain that. I think it comes with the territory that we shouldn't really inform anyone upfront about precisely when resets will occur, but suffice it to say that we're flexible, but, indeed, want to be more aggressive. I'm sure we can find a good cadence with some variance and flexibility.
Separate steam accounts
----------------------
It was not a goal on our part that people should feel bummed about not being able to enjoy their old stuff on the Steam servers, nor that anyone should feel that they now have to re-verify on Steam. The problem from our perspective is mostly definitional, technical, and procedural, as it is not entirely obvious what "account linking" implies (if "account linking" is even how one should think about the problem) and that there are several possible cases to consider (Preexisting Steam account being given a Seatribe-identiy, Preexisting Seatribe-account being linked to a pre-existing Steam account with or without associated Haven data, &c), and that it is not entirely obvious how to present those cases with rigorous and approachable procedures. Since this was a big deal, we shall say this much: We shall strive to formulate a solution such that you can enjoy your historic purchases on the Steam servers as well. Happy to take input on how you'd like that to work, tbh.
I hope that can calm some of the worries we appear to have caused over those particular issues!
Sleep tight! Expect 30+ page thread on waking up tomorrow!

I don't want to transfer. Let us join the steam world through normal means.

If you plan to make two worlds to prevent the cuck shed you mentioned on stream, why not put half the world on one server, and half the on the other, and then stitch them together?jorb wrote:Thank you everyone who tuned into tonight's stream!

Upon crossing the halfway point, you would go from server 1 to server 2 and vice versa, but with certain restrictions. EX(If server 2 is full, or you are in combat, you can't pass the wall.)
This would solve the cuck shed dilemma, and make both servers equally valuable, and the problem of one server being too empty and dead goes away.

Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Re: Game Development: Haven & Hearth on Steam
Letting us merely transfer items, and not join from both steam and haven cuts the community in half.
