Plants a tight forest all around you, or conversely, cuts down all the trees around you;

Runs away with the carcass of the animal you just killed; or
Just decides to settle down next to you while you don't like him?
These, and many other conceivable actions, are far easier ways to grief people than is PvP, and PvP is the only thing that keeps them somewhat in check. Therefore, removing PvP results not in less griefing, but in more.
In case it's not obvious, I'm not denying that some people just want to live in peace, and I don't think it would be a bad thing if they could do that. But removing PvP does not result in that.
>Starts building a village idol to claim the land around you;
Nothing, because for 90% of playerbase its impossible to siege anyone. And trying to siege the remaining privileged 10% is a deathwish.
>Takes ten alts to block the exit of your palisade gate;
Nothing, because its likely just a bait and will instantly equip a B12 if you mistakenly aggro them.
>Builds a palisade around your claim;
Reason why people won't do this is because building palis is tedious, not because any pvp mechanics would prevent it.
In fact most players just could not survive from a situation like this, what are they even supposed to do? Make alts, build a new temporary village from scratch, grind brimstone all only to get access to siege engines so that they could access their original village? Which may be very difficult or impossible if the griefer sees any effort to defend his newly built pali.
>Plants a tight forest all around you, or conversely, cuts down all the trees around you;
See last 2 points. (its too tedious so nobody does it + average player could do nothing to prevent it anyway)
>Runs away with the carcass of the animal you just killed; or
>Simply stands in your way;
Its currently much more likely that you are the target, not the animal.
>Just decides to settle down next to you while you don't like him?
Siege will never be balanced.
Loftar should publicly admit that none of his points apply in reality, so that people would stop throwing them around in discussions like these.

Re: one continent pve only
I think they should have just went with restricting criminal skills availability for the first couple of weeks to see how that goes. At the start of a world a player can pretty much grief or annoy anyone with impunity, at least for a short while, and things still mostly turn out alright in spite of that.
I agree with the points made that it is already the case that the majority of players typically cannot do anything about such situations anyways if it is a faction player and/or group causing the issues. Simply having the means for defensive and aggressive actions available does not mean everyone is making good use of them or that they are capable of doing so at all.
Alternatively, changing and balancing combat so it puts greater reliance on skill-based input and less on stats/quality/client advantages may be more beneficial instead.

Here you are talking Core changes and that's something I really hope they crowd source. Because combat has only gotten worse with their changes.Kaios wrote:Alternatively, changing and balancing combat so it puts greater reliance on skill-based input and less on stats/quality/client advantages may be more beneficial instead.
It seems like they want perma death but then the devs do everything in their power to change everything else that combats perma death. Now what we got is these Avatars of destruction running around and maybe they kill some, but other times chars are just KO'd. Then you have others who are actively using mathematics in order to subvert the protections given from the Dev.
the whole thing reeks of redneck band aid engineering

Yeah I agree, I've never really enjoyed the combat all that much but around world 10 and many of the worlds prior I did at least like it enough to put a significant amount of effort in to learning and understanding the mechanics.joojoo1975 wrote:Here you are talking Core changes and that's something I really hope they crowd source. I should clarify that I think skill-based inputs by themselves won't necessarily add much to this particular combat system. Skill and strategy/tactics should ideally blend together in a way that makes both those aspects useful, simply adding in skill shots for example is not going to resolve everything. It's not really one thing in particular like stats OR quality OR clients OR bots that I think provides a minority of individuals with significant advantages, but rather the culmination of all those things are what ultimately create that result.

Re: one continent pve only
So we agree that removing PVP is also pointless, and instead we should make PVP more accessible and better incentivized so that it functions as intended by the developers. Thank youmumstroom wrote:What do PVP mechanics really help in these situations?loftar wrote:Do I really have to spell it out for you? spoken like someone who has never experience a truly annoying griefer at world start, it quickly makes u realize why none of this shit makes any senseKaios wrote:I think they should have just went with restricting criminal skills availability for the first couple of weeks to see how that goes.
